On way home from dinner I pull into left turn lane and car one ahead of me looks like a fancy white camaro with black wheels. I'm thinking just an RS maybe I'll be lucky and it'll be an SS.
We make the turn and I come around to see it's a ZL1! We're on a 4 lane highway on out-skirts of city, no traffic, flat open road, cement center barrier, no businesses, neighborhoods, etc... I happen to be in Track mode, all nannies turned off, tranny in "S" and I throw it into 2nd gear. He does the same and instantly I see his nose jump way up so I hit the gas............ I jump out on him and see him on my rear quarter. I keep pulling where he's next to my bumper. My windows are up and I can hear his motor and exhaust screaming (incredible sound). Well, he starts to reel me in very slowly overtaking me once we hit 4th gear! But I was by his rear quarter in 4th when we had to hit the brakes. I had to turn right and he was going left, I opened my window and waived, he didn't respond, tinted windows but I could see blonde hair chick in passenger seat, I could see his face from setting sun and did not look happy!!!
Even though he slowly reeled me in and slowly passing, you might say technically he won, but the fact my big @SS 4 door family sedan jumped him and held him off till 4th gear, he was fuming I could tell!
It's just a Taurus!

I don't even have a tune, and I get that a lot. Not from cars like a ZL1, more like Acuras, Nissans, VW diesels, the occasional Hemi or Camaro, etc.

No one around here driving anything with any power seems to understand you need to feather the gas to launch even with traction control ;)

There's an area near here where it's a four-lane highway, which at one intersection opens up to 6 lanes, then goes back down to 4. I get in the right most lane which ends in a 1/4 mile, and usually pull way ahead. It goes from open road down to industrial area, so I slow way down. 100% of the time, someone gets their feathers ruffled and just has to pass me no matter what. The worst example of this was a Hemi Charger who couldn't grasp the idea that if the road's a little wet, they couldn't just rely on traction control. It was interesting to hear their computer valiantly trying to get as much traction as possible.

With PP gearing, a bit of turbo preload, and AWD, I can usually pull ahead of any V8 at launch. To keep the lead though, I really need a tune.

LOL Last week I tried to get a Hellcat Challenger to show me how silly I really am, but eather he was a lot smarter then me or he just figured I was not worth his time. Probably both, I just wanted to see how nasty they really are.

my buddy wants to run me when he gets his G8 back.

It would seem to me that depends on where he is getting it back from, but I would think it would be a fair fight as long as there is no blower sticking through the hood or venting nitros,

Sadly, the G8's will walk on the SHO almost anywhere except out of the hole. If it's a roll race, chances are the G8 will take it. This of course assumes some reasonable mods with nothing extreme on the SHO and comparable drivers.

IDK I will take your word for it but I think the stock numbers are pretty close, lot more upside on the G8 for sure but as they say "There is no Replacement for Displacement". LOL Lot closer then a Hellcat, anyway you never know till you line up.

I guess if you consider 415hp/415tq vs 365hp/350tq being close. I don't know what the G8 weights but it wouldn't surprise me if it's 400-600 lbs lighter. So you have a vehicle that's [probably] lighter and comes stock with an additional 50hp/65tq. I have a buddy who has one with basic bolt-ons and the only place my car is quicker is out of the hole. I would imagine it would take meth for me to keep up with him. But the interior off the show is 10x nicer than the G8 IMO.

Not sure what car your buddy has but those are GXP numbers not GT numbers and there where only 1829 of them built, the GT is ( 361 hp) and your correct there a few hundred pound lighter so its a tick quicker if it hooks. I agree Pontiac missed the mark on the interior it kind of looks cheap, but new it was cheaper then the SHO buy a bunch. Now throw a cam and some other goodies at her and it a whole other ball game pretty quickly.

I guess I missed any mention of it needing to be a GT as it wasn't specified. Yes, he does have a GXP.

LMAO You are correct Sir, I was not specific, but given that the GXP is relatively rare, and has a completely different motor then the standard GT, I made an assumption. Just like I also assumed you where not talking about the V6 model which is no contest for the SHO. But you are correct the 3.5 SHO is a bit outmatched by the 6.2 LS motor in the GXP. It is a very bad boy on the block, your friend has my admiration, its on my, (If I won the lottery list). I think I have exhausted this conversation, but I have expanded my knowledge of the G8 and I always did have a soft spot for a Pontiac.

LOL Who rebuilds a motor and goes back completely stock, that sounds suspicious to me, don't trust anyone who drives a Pontiac, I should know I had a Fire Chicken once.
