Sounds like oil leaking onto the cats, that is what could cause the smoking, pop the hood and look for a leak around the cam sensor (located on the passanger side next to the firwall on the head.) It could also be the main front seal. Look around for leaks.

Most likely it's the front main seal. Happened to me and after replacing it, it still leaks. Damn thing. You have to remove the 3 timing covers, accesory belts, timing belt, and harmonic balancer pulley to get to the front main seal.

I have a similar problem. I would definetly check the crank seals like everyone says, but if she is smokeing out the back it is probally something else. I had leaky crank seals (on both ends) and that elimated the smoke under the hood. Oil was dripping on to the cat.

But my burning problem continues. When the engine is cold, and sometimes when I wind it out, or come to a stop after cruzing down the highway at 65, it will leave a cloud of blue smoke. I believe the problem is valve seals, and plan on replaceing them if a few weeks. I did a leak down and compression test to see if it was a craked ring, but all was good. I will let ya know if the seals fix it.

Later,
Adam

Greg,

If the front main seal didn't fix it, it's probably the front oil pan gasket. There is such a small distance between them that it's real tough to determine the source, especially with all the crap still installed.

Yeah, i have the same problem. there is oil leaking from the bottom of the pan but i can't make it out it's coming from the pan gasket or not.

Don't forget the obvious one...check to make sure your oil filter is on tight enough. Happened to me once...
