hi, i'm new to this forum, and SHOs in general.
I recently purchased a 93 manual with 98K on it. When i test drove it the car it didnt puff any smoke at all, the guy said it had a newer clutch and timing belt/chain, nice tires, not a door ding in it, it was fast, loaded, why not buy it right?
well, i let it sit for a few days, and i started it up and its billowing smoke out the back. i checked the plugs and they were wet. Anyone have any ideas as to if its a headgasket or not? or anything else?
I called the guy and he denied knowing anything about it, and wont buy it back, anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to the SHO... Does it only do that after you let it sit for a while? I let mine sit for two weeks this summer. When I got back from vacation, started it up and it was like the Queen Mary setting sail. Smoke stopped after about 30 seconds. Doesn't do it when driven on a daily basis. Never need to add oil in between changes. I've read herre that it might be valve guides/seals - and probably not worth dealing with. Head gasket would probably be white smoke (steam). If it burns constantly, I'd start looking deeper. These guys are the ones who will point you in the right direction.

These V6s have a little quirk about burning oil at startup. A SHO that is started and run for only a few seconds then shut off will smoke at the next startup, a few hours later that is. So, if you are just going to move it in the driveway or something short, let it run for a minute or so. Both of my SHOs have always done this, even when they were new. If the smoke goes away in a few seconds, don't worry much. Consumption is what really matters, drive it a while and see what happens.

hey, thanks guys for the replies. i did try to nurse it back to health and drive it a bit yesterday. I was on the highway for about a half an hour and it lost well more than two quarts of oil. My girlfriend was following me and she said she got sick because it stunk so bad. and the problem didnt seem to go away after i drove it for a while. So, i'm thinking that it isnt worth dealing with and i'll probably just try to sell it for parts or donate it.

If your decent with a wrench just drop in a 3.2L, seeing as you live in Milwaukee and thats a decent sized town I'm sure you could find an auto 93-95 SHO motor for $400 - $600 and drop it in. If you want talk to Miltownsho on the forum send him a pm he might be able to help you out. :thumb:
