So, I went to start my car today and as soon as the starter made contact with the flywheel a loud pop erupted from my car (outta the engine bay). Then smoke started to come out from the hood. So, the engine didn't start, I let go of the key, popped the hood and saw smoke billowing out from my air box. I unhooked it and smoke was coming out from the tube leading to the intake! This scared me to death! I let the smoke disapate and put the box back together went to crank the car and it cranked for about 10 sec then started up, and drove fine like nothing had happened. First, what happened!? Second how can I fix this, it is freakin me out!

Man, that would scare the crap out of anybody!!!

Hopefully it was just a 1 time thing, maybe fluid got into somewhere where it wasn't supposed to be.

I would check to see if any rodents got up in there!! :) I'm kidding of course.

Hopefully someone will have a real answer for you.

Good Luck though.

Now THAT is weird. If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say your CID (cam position) Sensor is bad, and just happened to spark while an injector was firing, and it burped back through the intake. Check the codes, thats all I can tell you!

Yeah, that happened to me once. I pulled the intake manifold and cylinder 3 was full of fuel. A set of injectors from sho shop fixed it right up. But if it is running, I'd check for codes and maybe do a cyliner balance test.

I just did a 60k 2k ago..and this had happened before that..just not this bad..i would get the pop but not that much smoke..i could never find the source before..but this time it was bad! Anyways..during my 60k each plug and cylinder was dry and normal...and this prob. occured before the 60k..so i don't think it is the injectors, but maybe u r right..
