I am very much into car audio and I NEED an aftermarket head unit. The question I have is will I have any problems switching my head unit to the SLO radio with the manual climate controls? I am then going to get an aftermarket radio install kit like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...tem=7965458216&category=33714&sspagename=WDVW

Will this setup work?

BTW, here is the sub I just ordered yesterday

Thanks,
Matt

I doubt that will work. Besides it will look ugly.

If you really insist on having an aftermarket head put in in the center console. If I was to put a system in my car I would stick with the stock headunit and put in amps and good speakers. The only benifit of an aftermaket head is added features like MP3s and satellite radio.

aftermarket Radio

I would have to agree that installing aftermarket speakers and an amp is a good step towards improveing the audio quality, I have about 1500 watts going through my system with Infinity Kappas in the doors and rear and a bazooka tube for added base. The Infinities require a lot of power to sound good. Although there is still some room for improvement that can only be addressed by adding a new head unit can provide. So I am waiting and hoping that the kit that will allow the use of the automatic climate controls works and is finished soon.

You'd be hard pressed to actually hear a difference between the stock headunit and an aftermarket. If you're looking for better sound quality spend your money on more power and better speakers.

okay... well... I've been useing the search button...
...
Where is the post I'm looking for..?
I just bought my 1992 sho last week in Baltimore (and brought her back to Canada with me)... the speakers are age old sucking ***. I have new Alpine type R's in the rear.. (6x9) and some nice Type S 4x6 Alpines waiting for the front... (all from my 1990 Z24.... which driving both cars.. I will admit is a much sportier ride than the SHO... the sho is plenty faster though)

So... How do I wire these babies up? there are 4 frickin wires going into the rear speakers each.. (and that sub box)... I'm used to using speakers that only require 2 speakers...

man... I need a "How To"... on speaker upgrades... someone help please?... help me love my SHO (and that **** *** sound is gettin to me real bad)

all ive done is added 2 12" alpine type e's and for the amp input i used the wires going to the premium sound 6x9
those go to the high level input on the amp
and i have to say i FU^%ING HATE THE STOCK HEAD UNIT
no matter what the bass setting on the radio it decreases as you turn the volume up
so i find myself at about half volume and i turn the bass up to about half to even out with the inside speakers
the song ends and i turn the volume back down yet the bass still sounds cranked
this is NOT a problem you get with aftermarket head units using rca outputs

its pretty much impossible and completely not worth it to try to downgrade to the manual climate controls.

there are a few options though.
  • Install your head unit in the center console under the center armrest
  • Install your head unit in a custom mounting point where the cigarette lighter is now (there's plenty of room behind it)
  • use low level converters and upgrade everything but the radio interface unit
  • wait and see if that conversion kit for the auto-climate controls ever becomes a reality

I mounted mine in the dash just below the ICP, I can e-mail you a picture if you want...

I recently installed a David Navone LOC (line output converter), a 75Wx4 amp, and new speakers all around.

Let me put it this way.... WOW! The LOC puts out 9.5 volts per channel (most aftermarket headunits range from 2-4 volts) and preserves all bass and treble. With the bass and treble levels in the factory dash set in the middle, and the volume **** on the third bar, I'm getting incredible bass and treble that's crystal clear and loud as heck.

I can understand if you're like most people and like to change the CD from the driver's seat, but possibly try one of the other methods posted. Perhaps you could even relocate the CD changer to under the passenger seat and change CDs at a stoplight or something.
