I had an alignment done yesterday at Pep Boys. The alignment is much improved but it's not perfect like I think it should be. The guy doing the alignment said he tried ******* getting the alignment perfect, however. He told me that when the struts/spring setup was done on the front, the struts was pushed in too far, therefore hindering and making it difficult to attain a perfect alignment.

I had the front strut/spring setup done by an alley mechanic, and the Pep Boy guy said I should have marked off exactly where the old strut/spring setup were, before r/r with the new setup.

I don't know if this has worn down suspension parts because of this, but does anyone think that a perfect alignment can still be attained. I had the strut/spring setup done about 7-8 months ago.

Should I go back and have them try it again? The car only veers to the right ever so slightly, but the steering wheel is straight.

Have the spot welds been drilled out of the plates on the top of the strut towers? This must be done with lowering springs to allow the strut tops to be moved outward to get the camber back in spec and less negative (negative camber has the top ot the tire leaning inward).

The adjustment slots may have to be enlarged on the outboard side to get enough movement to get the camber into the specified range. Move them too far outboard and you will deal with physical contact between the spring pad and the strut tower.

There haven't been any drilling out at the spot welds.

With the front tires, before the alignment, the upper part of the tires seem to lean inward ever so slightly. But when the car came off the lifter, the tires looked fine. The mechanic said I could bring the car back another time, and they'd take care of it...don't know if that means for free (that is, adjusting the struts).

Also, there does seem to be some physical contact with the spring pad and the strut tower, but only on the right side, the same side that the car will veer toward. When you hit a bump, sometimes you will hear this rattle, as if the nuts on top of the strut setup need to be tightened. But I can deal with that!
