Fred does EVERYTHING by the book.

If the book says 35, they are 35. and on a friends car. he checked twice.

35? I gap my track car at .035". Stockers using AGSP32PP's are .044". As for chain slap, etc., I don't remember hearing it when brought in for the 60k - and Chris was pretty **** about his records, the previous owner's records, etc. - he'd have mentioned it if he heard it. I'll go back through the records but I don't recall off the top of my head being any issues noted with the chains.

I have only 1 pair of new front & rear tensioners left on the shelf. Chains are still available, and are the cheap way out (cost-wise). If the chain has stretched to the point of throwing it out that badly, it affects power because the intake & exhaust valves are out of time as much as 5 degrees or so, depending on how bad the stretch is. Try replacing the MAF entirely, not just cleaning it. Can you FEEL the slap on the rear cam cover bulge area in conjunction with the sound?

In all honesty, unless someone is complaining of a tick, I give a cursory lookover on the chains / tensioners at best during a valve shim job.
