Shop Recommendations

I'm new to the group and I am looking for recommendations for a good place to take my 95 SHO for repairs. I live in Waterford, Michigan and have stuck with the FORD dealer. They are pretty good, but expensive. If anyone knows a good shop in the area that has experience with SHO's please let me know.

It would be nice to start a relationship with someone who can help me fix the car when the inevitable issues come up. Right now it's running OK but the front end is starting to clunk, engine is tapping, it's getting hard to shift gears especially if its cold. I am not mechanically inclined at all and really need someone to give the SHO a close inspection. I have owned the car for about a year and have heard about the 60k / 120k maintenance and my SHO has about 156K on it.

With the trans, have you tried changing the trans fluid out and replacing it with fresh? If not, that would be a good start. Keep in mind that if you change your fluid it'll take 30-50 miles for you to feel the full benefits of the fresh fluid. I suggest Mobil 1 synthetic ATF as a replacement fluid. Royal purple is also top notch. GM synchromesh is a favorite of some as well. If it looks like a rebuild is in order I can help you with that portion, that's what I do.

I'm sure Bill can help you with the rest of the stuff. You will want to get the tapping you mention addressed asap. Where is it tapping from? (Upper/lower?) Don't take a chance on spinning a rod bearing, if that happens bye-bye 3.0!
