I raced a stock 5 speed GST years ago and beat him. All I had was a catback, and gutted cats. I think it was close, I don't remember. Driver mod does make a huge difference.
Maybe an lt1 came five speed? That guy obviously can't drive.

One of my first cars was a DSM, 91 TSi awd. Fun car, i could eat up just about anything out of the hole. As mentioned i'm not sure about 3rd gen (bigger eclipses) but 1st gen and 2nd autos pushed less boost, a stock or lightly modded auto GSX, is not going to beat a properly maintained and driven SHO, esp from a roll. lightly modded manual GSX is another story.

high 14's? Not calling BS but most ive seen were low 15's, with a few exceptions. They can be made pretty quick for cheap. Heck i had a boost controller thrown together with 25 dollars worth of stuff from home depot.

as for LS1? I'm sorry but SHOs are to LS1 powered cars what hondas with I/E are to us, a waste of gas.

if it's a GSX, i don't know, they have AWD

GSX are slower then GST my friend has a 97 GST he eats GSX's from a roll and if he gets a good launch from a dig his car is basically stock just a turbo back. When i race him ill let ya know the outcome but i do know that his car falls off hard after 6k and i have a feeling the SHO is just gonna walk away once i hit 3rd.

I also beat a stock gst from a roll. All I had done at the time was a catless y pipe, gasket matching, and a kn filter. It was very VERY close though. (Kid said his clutch slipped) LOL

Form a roll, I think SHO beats a lot of cars. As for racing eclipse, do at least half a mile, you need that extra time for your third gear and try not to spin tires too much in first. I'm almost sure that you'll get him but at least a car.

this is a quick note to the next person who wants to offer his/her opinion on this matter...read the date the first post was made, and then ask yourself if what you have to say is relevant or if you're just wasting precious bandwidth. have a nice day.

GenII MTX w/Y-pipe, against a 96 eclipse automatic turbo.

What do you guys think?

0 - 50 mph the Eclipse
50-whenever you lift SHO

As far as the LS1 vs SHO. THe SHO has NO CHANCE. Take it from someone that has driven and raced both.

this may be late and totally unrelated, but I tore a 3rd gen eclipse a new one with my stock MTX. Yeah that's just not fair..

Many have doubted the SHO, and many have lost to the SHO. An LS1 against an NA V6, no matter how powerful our SHO's maybe will have a hard time. But if that same POS GM had the puny V6 like many have instead, the GM would eat dirt.

Get a turbo slap it on then give him a SHOw

SHOs can be quick, no doubt about it, but I think some of us may have emotionally biased ideas of our cars abilities.

AWD DSMs cut sub 2.0 60ft times right out of the box on snow tires... on a track it's not likely gonna happen, but on the freeway (which I do not condone) you might do better.

You might have a chance with a GST at the track depending on driver skill, but if it's an AWD GSX on the track, or a GST on the freeway, you definitely should look under the hood at the turbo's compressor cover. If the compressor outlet points at the passenger side and says .48A/R, (the 2nd gen's stock T25) you have a chance. If it says anything except 060 on the turbine housing or the compressor looks bigger than a softball, run.

I ran a 13.8 @ 89 in my 5spd 97 AWD DSM with the only mods being the slightly less small stock 1st gen (90-94) 14b turbo on 18psi of boost (~6psi more than wastegate pressure) an upgraded intercooler and a catback exhaust. An untuned auto AWD car with a 14b or a 16G turbo off an old Evo may run similar or better times, as they can build boost on the line and there's no missed shifts from the driver being inconsistent.

Also, I data logged 60-90mph 4th gear pulls on the freeway at about 3.5-4 seconds with the same setup.

Many have also beat sho's. Who said anything about v6 f-bods? Even if you make them eat dirt with a spinning whirly voodoo magic thingy, blower or nitrous, that means that .25% of sho's can beat or even run with them.

Btw, when people talk about roll runs, why is it always to better favor the Sho? Wouldn't the satisfaction of beating them at their own strengths be more rewarding?

Just stating facts and one opinion

^^ it would be better.. BUT, its not going to happen unless you can find me a transmission i can actually launch with.. I still dont think a very heavily modded SHO will beat a lightly modded LS1 in the 1/4 even if it made twice the power because of mainly the 60' times and shift times.. NOW, if it were and ATX, if you build the tranny up.. THEN you could probably beat one at its own game.. But then again, how many REALLY heavily modded ATX's are there? They are mostly MTX... Not saying they aren't out there....Alex.... BUT, that 25% just got a s**t ton smaller.... I raced a TSI 5 speed from about 15.. he jumped a cars length ahead till about 55.. EVEN if you manage to get a good launch, a lightly modded one will still have a better Ib/HP ratio... thats just my opinion tho! ;)

EDIT: I love this cars just as much as the next enthusiast.... BUT unless you can shed 700-1000 pounds of of the SHO and have a drivetrain that WONT explode (Tranny or axle's).. your not going to be much of a 1/4 mile car..

I completely agree blackbeast (btw that was point 25%). Having an ls1 car myself, I can really see both sides of the spectrum. It just gets old seeing posts reading "boost it, it can beat anything then."

Like you said, It would be hard to beat one even with double the power. There's physics working against the car being fwd. **** has there been a Sho to break a 1.8 or 1.7 60ft? I've never come across anything but that would be badass.

Fwd cars with lots of power remind me of supras. They trap ridiculously high but with the et's of a much slower, underpowered car.
