SHO puddle lights - LET'S GO!

I've been sitting on this one for over a year and since I'm hunkered down for the storm twiddeling my thumbs, I thought it was time to pull the trigger . . .

Gauging interest for pairs of puddle lights (aka ghost lights, LED projector lights, etc.) using a Gen 3 SHO logo. If you're not familiar with these, they are basically small metal tubes with internal LED projecting image (from internal microfilm insert) onto the ground, normally installed in bottom of doors, firing downward, and powered when door is opened (dome light circuit). These kits will include a drill bit for cutting the right size hole for lights.

I'm attaching a reduced raster version of the vector file I had made last year. I have a shop in mind (within USA), but haven't contacted them to determine how many sets will need to be ordered to get the "custom" price down to the price they charge for in-house image units. I expect price will be between $35 and $45 for a pair. I just hope some Gen 1 and 2 folks (and perhaps late model owners) will be willing to hop on. Let's spread the word through the SHO world! I'd like to call the shop by end of the month (September).

So is the idea that the LED's are multicolored such that the lights light up like your picture onto the ground?

LED is a high-temp white projecting light through the microfilm insert, which is where color comes from. I'll attach a sample from a Mazda I found on the net. Instead of the Mazda logo, the image I attached above would show.

Well I am interested. Though I would like to get an idea of how they would look for the install, would they have a metal backing or just the film strip type?

I would be interested in getting in on this, I like the GEN3 logo but will there be other options or just that one in the image you attached? I would like just the SHO logo in all white light ( no FORD and no colored letters) would that be an option?

I concur with other previously expressed sentiments about remaining all one color (white) in order for me to consider jumping in.

Additionally, the GEN4 SHO & up, has a different type font / logo other than the one presented (which IIRC is for any/all previous GEN SHO's respectively).

I wouldn't commit if an option wasn't available for the appropriate differentiation in model years and/or Generation variations.

To answer gamefanatic's question: The way these are typically installed is, you drill a hole up into the bottom of your door (using hole drill bit provided with lights). File down the cut metal edge and perhaps add some silicone. Light tube gets inserted from below, wiring first of course, and a retaining nut is screwed down onto barrell from inside door. FYI, I've never installed these, just going by reviews and instructions from other sites. Getting the wiring through the door hinges presents other challenges, but as I've done both sides recently, and there is a write up on v8sho.com, there is some help to the Gen 3 folks.

Additional images can be created and exported to an .ai vector file (the ai stands for Adobe Illustrator). I'm obviously a fan of the color image shown, and had it produced by a local graphics shop a while back. It cost a little bit since I went back and forth with them and left a generous tip, but if anybody works with Adobe Illustrator, I imaging it wouldn't take much to just produce simple versions of various SHO fonts (Gen 1 on up). This might be even more appealing to the shop I have in mind, as they would be receiving more image options for drawing future customers (though we want to get as big a group buy as possible of course). Since I did leave them a tip, I'll get ahold of the graphics shop and see if they'd be willing to make a batch of very simple SHO fonts with a black background. I would include the Gen 3 version as well. If anybody has good quality jpegs or even vector pdfs showing any year's fonts, send 'em my way please!

Im on board with this....I would like just a plain white SHO either the outlined GEN1 image taht is on the hood blanket or the GEN3 image would be fine for me...put me down for a set! Let me know where to send the payment or deposit or however it works...this is a great idea

To be clear, I'm willing to take a few steps back and consider other designs, but I don't want this thread to turn into a brain-storming session of folks putting up various designs. If you'd like an alternative, send me image files (prefer vector format, but decent resolution rasters are useable) and I'll see what I can get from the graphics shop, UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE CAN DO THE GRAPHCS WORK, OR KNOWS SOMEBODY THAT CAN. Doing it ourselves would cut out a chunk of the ultimate cost, which would have to be spread out to each buyer (unless losing my butt on a group buy becomes a write-off under pending tax reform!)

Noted, but trying to get a bulk quantity of these light pairs in a combination of various images might undo the benefit of a group buy. I think at the most (at least for me), the best route would be 1 more additional image, being just a simple "SHO" with filled white lettering. As for which generation's font gets used, well, let the discussion begin.

Looks like a Gen 3, but per your sig, you own several Gen 1's. I think I may have used that one in developing my color image.

That image is from the hood insulator for 98-95. the GEN 3 added the "Taurus" in the H

I said to heck with the graphics shop and found a free trial version of Illustrator. Took my existing image and just moved/changed stuff around. I've created a version for each of the new poll options - solid letters and hollow letters. These are only low quality raster versions of the vector image. The projected image will be only the white components within the black circle, without any white ring or background around it (like the Mazda one above has).

Ok, so since I suggested using the appropriate type font for the 2010 to 2017 SHO logo, no sense making a suggestion and leaving it open ended / empty handed.

Therefore, I did my best to recreate that logo accordingly.

Considering there are several hundreds (if not thousands) of SHO owners that span those seven years respectively, I'd think you'd be remiss by not including them into this potential group buy effort therein.

So here's my contribution. Hope it's of some assistance.
