SHO problems

OK im TDY and a few thousand miles from home my friend with his 98 SHO go around the corner and he open the buterflys and the engine slowly spols down. Everytime he starts it it runs but it makes a klunk sound froum the back of the engine the cams have been welded.

He said it runs horrible and shakes badly. Rod bearing? Do we know if the back cams have been welded for sure. Remember who this car was bought from... a RTV crazy random spark plug man with bolts in random spots.

nope no cams spun but previous guy only welded 1 of the cams in the back so 3 cams are welded in the car acording to skilz .... but from the sound of it and from what he has told me there is so much sludge in the engine the oil pump got cloged and couldnt return oil to the heads valve cooked and it ended up in the engine but this is skillz he doesnt listen to the two sho guys.... or doesnt listen to the right one....

How in the world could you have got that much "sludge" in the oil pump to quit it from running.. has anyone heard this on our cars, cause that would be a first.

If you are unsure that the guy who welded the engine actually welded all 4 cams, then he probably didn't and you have a spun cam..

Sounds like pennzoil and a spun cam...never use pennzoil ever!

I've used Pennzoil for a few years now since that is what the local tire place that charges $16.99 on the special uses. I just had the valve covers off last week and everything looked pretty good for ~185k miles. I don't particularly like that brand but I change oil often and use other brands when the mood strikes me. Not that worried at this point.

Skillz is the nickname of our friend. We took the valve covers of and looked at the cams and see no evidence of a spun cam. I forget which cylinder, but there was a valve lying on top of the piston and the spark plug in that cylinder was smashed.

You sure it didn't spin a cam and then he just welded it anyway? If the guy who welded it did not know what he was doing, that could obviously happen.

Sounds like a spun cam.

See if the secondary timing chains (the chains that hook the cams together) are lined up and straight. If they aren't, then it most likely spun a cam and the guy just welded it anyway. You could also make sure the cams are aligned TDC as well.

Seen it many times.. people dont service thier cars correctly! Just did a motor for a guy in Kentucky like this, and refused about 5 welds because of this..

i have pics Ill post in here later that will blow your mind.. if the motor is that bad junk it! or replace the motor.. playing with this sludge will only cause you more trouble..

OLD WIVES TALE!! Stop being OLD WIVES..

All oil is fine, pick your brand and stick with it.. there is nothing wrong with Penzoil or Fram filters... People that have had issues are rare and unrelated to the product, but a lack of maintience in the past.

Am I going to hear about the defected filters from the factory again? Sure ALL places have defects that go out but this stuff is stupid..

I Just bought some autolites app104's two of them did not have threads (pretty cool thing to see) but should I stop buying autolites and Motorcraft plugs for a few defects?.. Nope . I have had 3 diesels since July 04, with the total milage for all 3 being 800,000 miles and all of them have been ran with FRAM oil filters..

Jeeeez. That's horrible.

I think the most ironic thing about those pictures are the fact that the chains aren't that dirty and the outside of the engine is pretty damn clean too.

What the **** is all that caked up crud? I had the valve covers off and stuff looked pretty clean. I've never seen a modern engine like that. Is that build up from clogged passages??

yea the engine had quite a bit of sludge

For the most part, I would say so. Oil, if not changed for a REALLY LONG TIME, gets very viscous and will stop the flow of oil and thus making the oil get very hot to where it starts burning (but it has no where to go), so it just gets hard and that's what becomes of it.

Crazy to think someone is that stupid to allow that to happen.
