I was wondering if anyone has done a sho motor swap into a second gen probe. I have a hole 92 sho for a donor and I can get my hands on a 93 probe base model. if you can help please I've always wanted to see a sho powered probe.

sho engines are "meant" to be in the taurus... well i know they werent designed for it but that is were they ended up.:type: i strongly believe they shold stay in the taurus espeacially in the ford department. i personally dont like probes or fords, but now I own 2 (fords that is). many people out there probablly like probes, sorry i dont. i love seeing sho conversions and i have seen about 35 total in real life. never in a probe.
a good friend of mine bought a probe 5 days ago for 6000. auto, 4 cyl, red. :oogle: boooolugh (thats me throwing up). he says its "fast" becuase it has exhaust... that added 40hp. lol. i actually laughed at him. :laugh_ti: (keep in mind this is while in the 97 probe)

I guess its like the same original modo of the taurus... its whats on the inside that counts!:thumb:

Well you dont like probes. Thats ok. While it is true that probes generally suck it is largely because of their engine. However the sho motor is a great engine. So logically it would make the probe way better. It would also be kinda fast seeing that the probe is lighter than the taurus. It has also defenitely been done before. Heres a link I got from shotimes http://www.jgstools.com/probe.html

Im not sure if they are using the probe or the taurus subframe but im sure some internet searching could give you a real good idea on how to do it.

Its like saying you shouldnt put a ford rear end in a mopar or a chevy 350 into a ford. Will lots of people not like you for it? Of course. Will it work just as good? Sure.

you hit the nail on the head with that comment. The hole reason behind putting a sho motor into a probe is because its alot lighter and I sort of want to have a car with some sort of bling or cosmetic pretties on it and I hate honda so thats out. And I would never disgrace any of my shos by making it flashy, it defeats the purpose of a taurus SHO.(it's suppose to be a sleeper. I also want to put a sho motor in a taurus wagon, and into a 98-00 ranger ( for a bagged mini truck)

see the ranger would be a cool conversion, I'd actually like to do it an early 90's ranger. i know everyone out there prolly doesnt like rangers... i dont really like them... i would also never really want to own another ranger again even if had an sho motor. actually lemme sleep on that one. lol.

Ok, the first gen probe is different then the second gen....cause the first probe is the same as doing a 626 (which has been done also....I rode in it the other night, lol) and it looks like from the link to the 1st gen swap, they made custom mounts.

I think the 2nd gen probe would be a pretty cool idea though.....nice sleek body, and if you use the a base model...everyone will think its a 4 cylinder, lol. just make sure to upgrade the brake to at least the GT's all the way around.....that way you might be able to stop.

The yamahammer will fit in a first gen, but no way in **** will you get one to fit in a 2nd gen unless you want your oil pan to receive a smooth bottom from the pavement.

The KL being a DOHC V6 is a tight fight in terms of height, and it's intake is no where near as tall as a V6 SHO's.

I believe the KL is a lighter motor (alum. block) which definately helps the probe when it comes to handling. Besides, the aftermarket for the KL is decent, you can get big power if you want it.

i'm not a huge fan of probes.. ever since that one hospital visit... but back on track i want to get ahold of my old 79 courier and get a sho motor powering that featherlight excuse for a truck...

it was the first vehicle i ever pwned so it holds a special place in my heart... now only if it had some real power... maybe as a prject in a couple of years...
definitely different thats for sure....

i love probes/mx6's..i had seven of them last year alone..who ever says the engine sucks is smoking some serious rock..and i want some too!!! my 197k 93 ran a 14.9 with just a stock sized borla catback and wai...not to mention the guy who's running stock engine and trans and is pushing 500k!!! with that out of the way..there's no way you could get it to fit with the stock hood, there's barely any clear. for the stock manifold as it is. it has been done to the gd platform(88-92 probe,mx6 626). i've also seen in person a sho engine in a focus.

too much work to do the conversion. new oil pan, custom axles, custom motor mounts.

I have a 2nd gen Probe GT that I track. The Probes handle better than the SHOs but the motor does run out of umph at higher RPMs. Its a decent motor and takes a beating but not like the Yamahammer.

yes someday a turbo will be on Proben. I can't believe I said that. :)

The reason I said 98-00 ranger is because in 98 they got read of the front I-beam and went to a control arm setup, And take it from me trying to lay out a ranger with I-beams is ugly. I'm working on a 91 2.3 turbo ranger and found out that I need to just redo the front clip with a toyota front clip to lay out and then do a stock floor body drop the rest of the frame. Plus in 98 they had the 3.0 5speed ranger I think that would make the conversion that much easier

Hey I want a SHO powered 2 door 5 spd Tempo. that would be light and with some mod's good handling, and can you say FAST? + NOBODY would expect a tempo to be that fast, so when I scream past a porsche boxter he will feel inclined to return it to the porsche dealer for repairs or a refund.

As it stands right now I cant count how many people said that the sho motor would not fit into half of the vehicals me and my freinds/and family have put it into. So the first thing i have to say is if there is a want there is a way! lol! And as it is ask groove83 about the tempo swap. But honestly motor mounts and custom oil pans and cv's arnt that had to make it is just alot more what machinery you have available to you. Right now for "project X" we have made motor mounts, cv's and lots of other things.

you can swap any motor into anything.....the only thing that will keep you from doing it is how much money your willing to spend for all the custom machining and fabrication. i mean they swap 454's into all the generations of s-10 pickups. thats alot of fabrication and money.
