I'm in the Atlanta area on business, and in my hotel parking lot, 2 spaces down from my black SHO, there's a red taurus with all the normal SHO badging, but also a police interceptor badge. Is that a real thing (a car that's both), or did somebody just buy the Ford version of fake vtec badges?

There were police interceptors that had the 3.5 EcoBoost engine, but I don't recall ever seeing one that had SHO badging. I'm guessing he added the police interceptor badging.

Kryptto is probably thinking a ticket for impersonating da poh-leece would be my guess.

But at least in IL that wouldn't happen.

It's a publicly available item that isn't necessarily truly a representation of a law enforcement.

Ok great point - maybe different laws for different states - however I wouldnt want to be pulled over with one on my car.

I still probably have that same badge I never used when I got it back in the 90's. You can buy those at the dealer parts counter and other sellers

@ Kryptto......

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Why in the F anyone would want to advertise (particularly on their personally owned vehicle) anything to do with the poh-leece is beyond me.

I mean, like it's the most challenging times ever for that profession, and it seems in many parts, that those involved in that profession don't even care to advertise their involvement.

Gotta be the most least respected jobs out there it seems.

Just like I have zero cars with any crap on them... advertising politics, sports teams, kids are geniuses at some school, we overshare, make ourselves targets to all sorts of crud... that said a ****** off cop who pulls me over for 95 on Interstate 95 sees a police interceptor badge on a civilians car.... why call that attention. Cr@p I debadged my SHO... so others don't know- even cops, who in many precincts drive a similar car.

Glad u agree. :)

Police Interceptor is literally just a package. It is on thousands of cars nationwide. Most of them in civilians possession. I doubt most cops would even notice it. I doubt anyone would notice it except a car person, when it is stopped at a light or parked. There is literally NOTHING you could be ticketed with for that. Police impersonation is a felony (arrest not ticket). In addition, if that is all it took to "impersonate" a cop, everyone that drives a P71, Caprice, etc. with paint schemes. spot lights, police interceptor badging, etc. would be getting arrested left and right.

PI-badge:

Same thing as the P71 and my Marauder. I ordered the official Ford P71 Police Interceptor badge for my Marauder, but never put in on the car. I just got the new PI-badge for the Taurus PI from Tasca. Looks nice. Its Eurostile/Microgramma type is in mirror-silver on a black field (caution: eBay replicas use the wrong typeface and look decidedly less authentic). It's made of a flexible, rubbery plastic; the old ones were a molded plastic, if I recall correctly.

I think I've decided to delete my rear SHO/EcoBoost badge and mount the new PI-badge on the rear-left (I'll leave only the side-panel SHO-badges as a subtle indicator of its true heritage). This way, the car's badging will be a bit less unauthentic (i.e., sans the give-away PI/SHO-combo rear-badging). Since I've already got the PI-grille installed, I think the PI-badging will add a subtle aesthetic complement to the car's overall look. Adding the press plates will complete the effect.

Spent two days at the DMV attempting to sort out the transfer/replacement of my old press plates from my Marauder. Ultimately, it proved impossible since Pick-Your-Parts mistakenly took ownership of my plates and "destroyed" them. So the DMV will likely issue me a brand-new 'PP' plate-series. That's cool. The higher plate number will look a bit more anonymous, and more up-to-date.

Here's the part:

Voilà!

Applied the PI-badge to my non-PI SHO today. All I need are the PI-taillights to complete the look. Decided that I'm probably keeping the SHO's EcoBoost badge and not replacing with the PI's FlexFuel AWD badge. As for the SHO fender-badges, I plan to darken them using the same translucent model spray-paint I used on the Ford badge on the grille (which turned out great; rear spear, not so great—need to re-paint).

If you take just the "SHO" lettering off, it will be badged like the FPIS with the EcoBoost option. (Same as photo above except EcoBoost badge where the FlexFuel badge is.)

Yep, the two automatic giveaways it's not an authentic SI when people do the re-badging.... 1) Outer taillights - authentic SI is all red instead of the clear centers. AND.... 2) No keyhole in the trunk, this was specific to the SI. And.... as an extra 3) no plain black side vents in front of the driver's door. I do have an authentic 2013 SI Ecoboost, it was an unmarked detective car out of the Palm Beaches. Ford had an option for the Police Interceptor logo delete which this agency elected, but on the right side it just has the Ecoboost badge. I put the factory Taurus badging on the LH side in the stock location to confuse people a bit and to slightly de-cop the car. Didn't want to badge it as a SHO as the car has none of the interior refinements (except the center console which I forklifted out of a 2016 SHO). The SI seats after about 50 miles are like sitting on an anvil btw! One other thing that freak people out a bit when they're installed on your car.... AVS ventshades! I'm in Central Florida and down here they are really nice for keeping your black car's interior somewhat cooler.... but they do make people driving past you a little paranoid.

Oh, just a point of data... there have been people arrested, jailed, their cars towed & impounded specifically for having the "Police Interceptor" badge on the car. At least one case occurred in Pennsylvania, the car was parked but observed with a PI badge on the decklid. The local constabulary decided to stake it out. When the owner got in and drove off, the car was stopped and SNATCH! Owner got a ride, Captain Hook was called & the car was impounded. The case went to court I believe as a felony but the owner plead out during the trial to a misdemeanor and got time served & probation. It actually was an ex-police car and the owner's lawyer made the defense argument that the PI badging was a standard Ford accessory for that particular carline. Didn't work, in conflict with PA state law. Too bad so sad says the Judge. Also in Canada, Nova Scotia has a very strict anti-police "stuff" law now ever since that impersonator was driving an ex-RCMP car and shot a bunch of people a few years back. They'll tow & arrest on sight. Basically it all depends on the discretion the locals decide to exercise or not exercise when upholding strict interpretations of local & state laws. Having that badge on there is just handing those kinds of LEOs a free excuse to stop you & have a little "chat".

Just a little perspective from a 17-year certified former LEO.

This was the reason I posted originally- I personating a police vehicle IMHO, is asking for more trouble than it's worth. I too live in Palm Beach County - would love to start a PB SHO club BTW - why I feel why attract the attention?

Wether it's legal - police auctions - or laws provide cover for civilians to own them... just y? That's it. Thanks!

De-badge and replaced SHO badges with PI blanks - JUST to debadge SHO.
