Hey you guys this is my fist post here, but I have read a lot of what you guys have written, and it seems to me many of you are QUITE knowledgeable :hail:
I have a white '92 MTX bone stock.
My problem is, I recently have been hearing a sort of rattling sound from what seems to be my differential. I jacked up the car and started it up with the
wheels off the ground and ran it in 2nd gear. and it definitely sounds like the differential. I then took it to a trans shop and they put a stethoscope, on it and said spider gears.
So, Where can I get either the spider gears or preferably the whole diff new.
Or do any of you guys know where I could get a (good) used quaife with plenty of life left.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated !!!!!!! :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail:

Three problems.
One - internal tranny parts are hard to find.
Two - you need to have a diff shim selector tool to properly install the diff with new bearings.
Three - Good luck on finding someone to give you their Quaife (unless you are very lucky and get a Quiafe equipped tranny at junkyard for $83)

I would go to Bizzy to get a rebuilt transmission. If you want to do the work yourself, I would contact Josh at SHONut for the tool, parts and video.

Including the above as great advice, you might also think about getting a used trans as a backup anyway. Most yards charge less than $400 for a used MTX4 and they only weigh about a hundred pounds so you can ship them quite easily(for a transmission). You could ship the used one off to Bizzy (she does a wiz bang MTX4 rebuild and has "oodles" of parts). Mine was in her hands for 3 days...I got lucky that I did not have to wait on shipping. You might be able to ship it to her and get it back in such a timely mannor, that you can continue to use your current trans and just swap them when it gets back.

All this MIGHT cost less than having an "ordinary" trans shop perform a rebuild. And this way, your trans will be like brand new. All worn parts replaced and installed CORRECTLY...including diff shimming; which in my opinion, improves shift quality tremendously over a worn or loose(slapped together by a tranny shop) diff. I'm sure not everyone agrees with that last part but what the hay...

I believe my third tranny fail because the ring gear was not moved and the diff was not shimmed. My bearing on diff disentergrated. The tranny I have now is put together correctly with new bearings and blocking rings thanks to my friends' and brother's help.

this is perfect advise get another trans for the rebuild and ship it off(shipping weight is 102 pounds) then you can keep driving until you get the perfect trans back, you should have tony check it out ( cause hes in texas too) and make sure thats what the prob is, before you spend all this money! i dont know him personally but i hear nothing but good things about him, his car, and his work. a good sho mechainc is hard to find, i plan to have bizzy do my trans this spring quaife and all i just need to find a 1-2 syncro first. you can contact bizzy here on the forum. look in the members list at the top ofthe page.
