Here we are with 4 months to go until the next SHO Convention gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina, and we have managed to put together an exciting schedule of automotive sites and venues to check out during the week that any automotive enthusiast should be crazy about!

VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
First up is THE main reason we chose to visit the land of southern hospitality, the road course at VIR in Alton, VA. Traditionally the SHO Club has stayed away from some of these upper scale courses due to cost, but we are going to make it happen this year! In order make sure we have enough cars to help cover the cost, we have opened the event up to our friends in the TCCA and AutoInterests groups as well!

The cost of renting this track is the highest we have ever done, and I have had a discussions with the organizers of the SVT/Cobra/Shelby clubs about cross-promoting events. HOWEVER, if at least 45 cars can send in a down payment (preferrably check to avoid CC & PP fees) of $50 to commit to attending the VIR track day before the April 15th, then we won't need to open it up to the Mustang groups as all of the costs will be covered; thus keeping the track day to just our Taurus SHO Enthusiast community and friends!

There is an on-property lodge with a very limited number of rooms (only 27) if you would like to drive up Tuesday afternoon, and because of the small amount of rooms, we are not able to stay there as a group. Contact Tammy Journigan at 434-822-7700 x101.

Our Primary Host Hotel for the convention is:
Renaissance Charlotte Suites Hotels
2800 Coliseum Centre Drive, Charlotte, NC
Phone: 704-357-1414 or call 1-800-266-9432
https://resweb.passkey.com/go/SHOClub.

We were able to negotiate a group rate of $100 per night. RESERVE YOUR ROOM(s) NOW because the hotel was not willing to lock in a large block of rooms without the SHO Club (& Mallinsons), putting ourselves financially on the line for any cancellations that did not meet their required minimum. What they are willing to do is make sure that any reservations can be cancelled for no charge up to 6:00PM on the day of arrival. The hotel will not make any charges to credit cards until we check-in, or after 6:00pm day of arrival with a guaranteed reservation. Those using debit cards need to note that a $50.00/day incidental authorization will be made to the debit card, which will be placed back on the card if the room does not incur any incidentals during the stay; typically taking most banks 3-5 business days to do so. If you have any questions on the hotels debit/credit card policy, PLEASE ask when you call to reserve your room!

SHO-N-GO
Returns for the 2011 Convention and will be the overall winner from the entire week with the highest points total from all activities attended: Reception Pit Crew Challenge, Car Show, Distance Taurus SHO was Driven/Trailored to Convention, Participation in VIR track day, and "The Rock" Drag Race. Points breakdown will be posted in the Convention Program for those interested, participation in all activities is not required, but the vehicle used must be a Taurus SHO (except in Pit Crew Challenge) to be eligible.

2012 CONVENTION
Our top choices for the next few years of conventions are located on our Convention Survey for those who have not filled it out since last year, and the choices are updated during the week of convention prior to the announcement of the next years location.

I would like to make the suggestion that we DO include more groups. Even running the shorter courses, you're still looking at 3+ miles and unless we're running only 2 groups, it'll get boring with not enough cars on the track. Even then, 25 cars per session may not be enough.

Seriously, I was at a Mazda Driver's event and there was almost 200 cars and with 4 run groups it still was not crowded...

I'm up for lowering the cost, but with more cars there's more chance of red flag stuff. Either way I'm just glad to get a chance to run at a track I've known about and wanted to run for a while.

Hey, that's two people I trust saying "do it" so I'm in. It's just the old man in me thinking about the maybe high percentage of first timers'.
