Hi everyone! We just bought our new-to-us 2015 SHO in August. The week before we bought, we spent all of our free time reading posts here to learn more about it and what we might be getting into :) I had heard of the SHO years ago but had no idea they were still making it. Thank you all for the many helpful, interesting, and sometimes very funny posts.

I especially appreciated the posts about problems (prepared us for the PTU oil changes!) Well unfortunately, I already have one of my own to contribute. But maybe it will be helpful to someone else.

1 month after we bought it, hop in and it won't start. Console and dash lights are flashing, Sync kept trying to restart and then going dead, rinse-repeat. drove it daily with zero problems up to this point. Pop the hood and the battery cables were smoking! We disconnected the battery, had it towed to the dealer (it's a Ford CPO). They said it was a battery leak - replaced the battery and cables, didn't charge us.

10 days later, car won't start again. This time, no flashing lights or anything, just dead. Again, zero problems with daily driving over the last 10 days. Towed back to the dealer. They said it was a defective battery, replaced it, told us to come pick it up. But when we opened the driver's side door, the car was making the "no seat belt" chime. Service guy says "OK it's not supposed to do that, better check it out." They checked both of our fobs, no problems with those, but they also discovered our remote start function wasn't working.

So that took 3 days to diagnose and now the verdict is..."we isolated the drain to your shifter and it's covered." Not sure exactly what that entails or how it's draining the battery, but they're going to fix it. Hopefully the shifter is the fix. We love this car, but we love driving it too!

Interesting for sure.

Any further details your stealership's service dept can provide?

Or even do have the ability to speak directly with the tech who worked on your SHO?

This platform is a lot of fun, but it does, like any other mfg'er, have its' respective quirks.

Yep, just got the dealer's tech to dumb it down for me a little: shifter is mechanically placing the car in park, but something is keeping the electronic system from recognizing that (and they think that "something" is in the shifter). The electronics think it's still in gear (thus the warning chime and inoperable remote start) which is what ran down the battery (seems a bit unclear because it's not like we left the door open and chiming away all night and you'd think the system would shut itself off). They are replacing the entire shifter box/assembly in the center console.

Always a little unnerving to have problems while you're still getting to know the car! Honestly with one messed up battery and one dead battery 10 days later, I expected to hear "you need a new alternator." the dealership got it wrong with the "just a bad battery" thing but maybe they got it right with this shifter. I'll keep the thread updated, thank you both for responding!

Known problem with the Taurus & other model lines
http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=189151

ISSUE:

Some 2011-2014 Edge, 2011-2015 MKX, Explorer and 2013-2015 Flex, MKS, Taurus vehicles built on or before 12/01/2014, and 2013-2015 MKT vehicles built on or before 03/16/2015 equipped with a floor shift selector lever may exhibit a Shift To Park message, Transmission Not In Park message displayed while the shifter is in park position, or unable to remove the integrated keyhead transmitter (IKT), or a discharged battery due to the Shift to Park light remaining illuminated.

Hope that is the end of it :)

Just hopping back in for an update. Car is driving great after having the shifter replaced (under the 12-month/12,000-mile CPO warranty). I've taken several 300+ mile road trips since the replacement in September with no problems at all. Side note: I love this car, especially cruising on the highway.
