shift shaft seal removal

Hi, i did a search for info on removing the shift shaft seal on a 91 mtx and found a few posts that answered my primary question as to whether removal and replacement was possible while the transmission was still in the car.

However, I didn't find anything about how to get the old seal out. I have the shop manual which says which specialty tool to use, but I was just wondering if anyone else who has replaced it before did so without them, and if so what would your recommendations be on how to remove it.

Thanks in advance for and responses and help, I'll be tearing into and figuring it out in the next few days, just though I'd check and see if anyone knew for sure.

I had no trouble replacing my seal. Popped the old one out with a screwdriver. Entire job to just a few minutes.

thats good to hear, wasn't sure how tightly the little bugger was in there. Thats sounds so simple that even I couldn't screw it up
