Hey all

So I was talking to some Grand National guys the other night and they mentioned something rather interesting to me. Fender Flares. No, nothing obsurd or enormous, but a nice, thin, lipped fender flare that extends a bit more then a stock Taurii's fender would allow. Quite a few of the GN boys do this for their pro-tour GNs so that they can fit wider tires/rims w/o sacrificing the looks or handling of their cars. What do you guys say? I dunno, I'd like to see how a 1.5" fender lip would look on a Gen I.. definitely give it an auto-xing crazed look... Just a thought... Perhaps an insane one...

Neno I've thought about the same thing. A Gen II with 245/45/17's and some tasteful fender flares would look killer IMO.

Are you going to try this on your black one?

well if u think hes crazy wait till u hear my idea. Take all 4 fenders off the a SHO (not urs) then form them into a wide body kit, my adding metal and forming the new peices. Works better than fender flairs, but its more work.

Now you're talking. I would love to see that. The fender flares sounds a bit easier though.

DfwSHO, you can run 245/45-17 on 17 x 8.0" rims on a Gen II without any trimming as long as the rim's offset is 40mm. I have them on my '95, no problems.

Now a set of 275/40-17 on 17 x 9.5" rims with fender flares would be really cool, heavy and hard to launch yes, but really cool.

Heavy and hard to launch on 275s? What ya got? a stock 220Hp'd SHO?! My mad mad powerful 221Hp'd SHO would burn 'em to a CRISP! heheh!

Seriously though.. Fenders would be pretty wicked. prehaps glass front fenders?! inserts for the rears.. Maybe Shawn P can try to find us something interesting? A wide body kit, although sounding rather extreme, would be pretty cool if it was extremely mild. VERY VERY VEEERRYY MILD! I can't imagine a SHO body w/ rear flares the size of a 911s... heh

Well a 3400 lbs FWD car is heavy unless your comparing it to a Seville STS.

No, I was talking about the weight of a 17 x 9.0" or 9.5" rim with a 275/40-17 tire. My 17 x 8.0" rims and 245/45-17 tire combo already out weighs the stock 215/60-16 tire and slicers by 4.3 lbs each, and the wheels are fairly light weight at only 21.5 lbs. And I have enough power to spin them plenty hard, even in the dry

As far as tasteful fender flares, check out the ones on the proposed road version of the BMW M3 GTR
http://www.km77.com/marcas/bmw/serie3_02/gtr/gra/1.asp

Something like that would be real cool.

You'd have to look around. Perhaps finding the actual ones from the bimmers in some sort of aftermarket package and reshaping them to fit around a Taurii's body curves...
