ok started the job and noticed that the 4 SFB's that i had were actualy 2 rear ones heh yay. no biggie the rear ones are the ones im having trouble with. get one side out put up the jack stands and get ready to jack the car up a bit more. start turning the other bolt and WOAH its really easy to turn. maybe its just loose i think. NOPE the bolt on top poped its weld or broke the clips that hold it still and happens to be loose. Problem Identified. ok so here is the immediate problem how can i reach the top bolt. i looked under the carpent no rubber plugs or detachable plates only solid metal floor with a type of insulation on top. when i looked to see where it lined up insinde the car looks like i have to cut a hole in my floor board to get to it. ok i know that Ford is not pefect but i refuse to believe that they would make such a design flaw as to not to beable to reach the bolt like this any suggestions would be helpful pictures would rock e-mail them to me if you dont want to post them. thank you
BTW its a 94 mtx artic blue beauty

you need to take the car to a ford deal so they can preform the recall. Or you can do it yourself, with drilling the holes and what not. Me I'd rather take a car to a dealer and have them do it. They seem to be pretty good at it and I've seen some hack jobs done on cars.

There is a recall on the plate nut on top of the rear 2 bushings. As Bruce already said, you must access it via a hole drilled in the floorpan. I would have the dealer do it if they have to pay for it. If you do it make sure you get plugs for the holes in the floor.

If you can't get a dealer to install the recall kit for free, you can get the recall kits inexpensively from places like SHOnut (if you can't get it cheap from the dealer).

The kit comes with instructions, plugs for the floor, etc.

If you *can* get a dealer to do it, which isn't unheard of at all, ask them if they'll install the new bushing at the same time that they're doing the recall service. You might be able to get everything done at once.

If the vehicle is inside the covered areas, Ford is *REQUIRED* to perform the recall at no cost to the car owner. Virginia is included in this recall.

You are, of course, free to negotiate the replacement of the SFBs at your own (additional)expense with the individual dealer at the time you have the recall performed.

Inspect under the floor mats to see whether or not the recall has been performed.

If the car is registered in VA or any other state or province covered by the recall, it is to be done. Procedures for vehicles not listed in OASIS are in the reall documentation.

If the car was recently registered in VA, the data gathering system probably has not yet caught up with your VIN yet.

My 92 was not covered under recall even though they were shot. I'm guessing because it was a Florida car..

My white 91 was covered, not sure about the black 91, didn't have it long enough to find out, although I'm sure that's what broke the steering rack, cause the problem was still there after replacement headbang

Once again, I will repeat it:

If your vehicle is not listed in OASIS, the Ford dealer has the procedures necessary to perform the recall if your vehicle is registered in or was originally sold in one of the listed states or provinces.

If you have a failure and are outside of the specified geographical area, the dealer also has the procedures to perform the recall and to make the repair under the provisions of the recall.

If you meet the qualifications for the recall and a dealer is "giving you the runaround", specifically point them to the dealer letter that they received for recall program 98S36.

You can read information about the recall at NHTSA's web site. Go to NHTSA's Recall Search Page and search for recall program 98V323000

If you also look at the related documents, it also has instructions for consumers to follow if their dealer will not perform the recall work. A word to the wise: Make certain you qualify for the work before complaining or you will make yourself look like a fool.
