I just got a 94 atx and it just turned 90k. i am shocked to see how good a condition it is in. engine is quiet and this cars injectors tap is hard to hear compaired to my 93. my question is a 90k there is only a oil stain in my plug wells and no trace of fluid, so does this mean a 60k was done?

THO-SHO, i live in beacon and my ATX is in good condition too, so im debating. but call your local ford (sunshine ford in newburgh maybe?) and have them run the VIN number. they will tell you if the car has ever been serviced by ford. if they say it hasnt had a 60k then maybe you should contact the previous owner if thats who you bought it from. if youre going to attempt it yourself send me a private message, i may be able to give you a hand. i have the instructional video on the way. talk to you later.

THO-SHO,

The above post is great advice. Find out if the vehicle has been serviced, and what was done in the way of service. The number one thing you want, and need to know ASAP, is whether or not the timing belt has been changed.

If your timing belt is original, with 90K miles on it, you need to have that replaced ASAP(As Soon As Possible). The manufacturer recommends that it be changed at 60K. A timing belt at 90K is on borrowed time! rangerj

60K is for an MTX.

Due to the automatic tensioner, ATX timing belt service replacement interval is 100K.

The valve shim adjusment is still 60K for either engine.

THO SHO,

I appologize if I caused you some concern with my post. I also thank Steve for correcting me. I tend to forget that there are SHOs that have automatic transmissions.

You have time between now and the 100K to gather whatever information you need to do the timing belt change. It would still be a good idea to get whatever information you can on the vehicles maintenance history. LOL with your SHO, rangerj

theres a younger kid in poughkeepsie with a green 94, hes got some great sounding mufflers on his. you ever see him around by chance?

Below is an edited reprint of my response to a similar discussion for this topic....

Try this listing of services, parts and recommended replacement intervals. If a part was replaced at the first 60K service and I specify a 120K replacement interval, that means I think it should be good until the 180K service. Search Key: 60K parts and recommended replacement intervals

...Requires gapping tools and supply of shims
2) Spark plugs - 60K
...Motorcraft AGSP32PP (6 ea.), O'Reilly $3.79 ea., FordPartsNetwork.com (FPN) $3.99 ea.

II. Front End Engine Work

7) Front main crankshaft oil seal - 3.0L: 60K, 3.2L: 100K
...National 710220, RockAuto.com $6.26, O’Reilly $7.99

With the lifetime warranty on parts such as the remanufactured water pump, I let them go until they leak. Otherwise, you would have to buy them each service and basically forfeit the warranty. If the water pump is original and has no warranty I would replace it with a remanufactured unit that does have new seals, bearings and warranty.

I personally wait until the thermostat fails before replacing it since you can reach it just as easily by loosening the intake tube hose clamp at the throttle body and the two air cleaner lid clips and removing the cleaner lid and intake hose. It could last for years and the most common mode of failure is that it doesn't fully close, rather than sticking closed. It just makes the engine slow to warm to the normal range or prevent it. Neither is immediately hazardous to the engine.

The crankshaft position sensor (CPS) has shown the ability to last longer than 60K miles and usually more than 100K miles. Since I do all of my own work, I wait until it fails before I replace it just to save money. At your mileage, I would replace it. It certainly saves the effort later. My OEM CPS unit lasted 180,000 miles.

My OEM CID (cam) sensor was still going strong when I replaced it at 269,000 miles during a camshaft seal replacement. After seeing a new one, I can see why. It is rather robust and there are no moving parts and not much chance for any physical contact with the sensor wheel.

The throttle position sensor is also a long life component and incredibly easy to replace. Only replace it when it fails. Same for the coolant temperature sensor.
