What the **** is it, and what does it do?

When i was resetting the PCM today, i noticed that the sensor wasn't plugged in.... Thinking someone probably removed it by accident I plugged it back in.

Well, i went to fire the car up. It started, stalled out, and smoke came from this sensor. I quickly shot up, disconnect it, and tried to start the car again. Low-and-behold, i blew a fuse. Replaced it, and the car fired up again.

So, who knows why that would be disconnected and blowing a fuse when it's plugged in?

it's the low coolant sensor, and it broke. You just found out why the PO had it disconnected! This is "the sensor that keeps your car from starting".

funny enough, no low coolant light on. and what do you mean by "sensor that keeps the car from starting."

with it disconnected, it starts just fine. ****, with it connected, it starts just fine until the thing starts to smoke haha.

good to know it's not important at least.

The sensor is wired to one of the circuits (Ignition Coil) that is necessary for the car to run.

When the fuse blows due to a defective sensor, the engine quits.

No. There are several different failure modes. The most common is an internal short circuit that blows the fuse.

Yours is likely just crudded up and needs a good cleaning.

My ATX did the same thing except i was driving it when it happened. Talk about panic!! As mentioned before the sensor is shot. Junks yards are now your best friend.

.. for some reason, it messes with my fuel pump, lol..
at times, the FP wont come on.. so i go and wiggle that fuse..
everything works..
oh, the low coolant light does come one.. kinda fades away.. back on.. the off, haha..

The car will work fine if it doesn't detect coolant at the bottom of the sensor, it'll just keep that light on.
