SEL w/MACh & auto dim radio face

Hi, I have a 2002 Taurus SEL with the MACH stereo and CD changer in the trunk. It also has the auto dim feature so that when you turn on the headlights, the radio and climate control face dims. That's fine at night but I leave the headlights on in the daytime as well and do not want the controls to dim. Is there any way to turn this off so that it will not dim. It it very difficult to see the dim read out when the sun is shining, even with the dimmer switch all the up. Any help on this is most appreciated.

I'm game for anything that works, even if it means surgery.

You could probably find the dimmer control wire, and put a switch in line to turn it on and off manually. But to be honest, I'm not really sure.

Any techies out there who know which wire this might be?
