If you tie the secondaries open and unplug the IMRC box, should the computer still throw out a code?

Could you define what exactly you mean by "cycle", and thanks for the answers to my questions.

When the tranny guys put the engine cover back on I guess they saw the box was unplugged and plugged it back up, so I unplugged it again and I am getting a SES light, haven't checked for the code but the tranny guy said it was giving him an "IMRC" code and he didn't know what that was, I explained how the IMRC worked and why it would give a code, got the car home, took the cover off and sure enough--the box was plugged up, so I unplugged it. The butterflies were still tied open though. So it should stop lighting up the SES after a while then right?

Driving cycles. Meaning you start and drive car. The PCM will run its normal diag and after several cycles it will quit setting a SES light for the IRCM.
