well I borrowed my car to a friend yesterday and when I got it back I noticed the little black plastic piece at the base of the headrest had ben pulled upwards till it slid freely on the post. I am trying to put it back down but cannot see how to do it. Also is there a release to move the headrests, I never have and don't wish to break them.

Headrest stuff

The black plastic grommet just needs to be screwed back in. It has threads on it.

The headrest has a retaining clip on it that can only be accessed by removing the upholstery from the seat back, or by at least pulling it up 2/3 of the way (which is not easy). Then there is a little copper clip that is riveted on one of the posts to keep the headrests from coming out - this would need to be cut off in order to remove the headrests, and a replacement attached (welded?) to keep the headrest from pulling out completely.

Not sure if this helps, but I just replaced the "tubes" or "sleeves" that hold the headrest in place on my SHO's passenger seat, and I didn't need to take off any of the seat covering. I just followed jelloslug's instructions in this thread:

BTW, what a relief it is not having to listen anymore to the headrest rattling! :)
