Ok, I just got on the forum to check it out and then i'm going to get some milk...THE CAR WILL NOT START. My fob is working, lights come on, guages activate,all my little guage lights come on, etc.When i put the key from the "on" position to "start"--no clicks, no crank, no sputter, nada. When I turn the key to start position again---nothing. I let it cool for awhile---nothing. The mechanic that welded my cams and helped me wit hmy missfire promblems last week, refer to my posts, says the starter and solenoid have bit the dust. What does this sound like to you veterans?I'm glad its dead in my driveway than down in Tampa where I'd really be S.O.L.How do i test the car?I'mgetting no service light at all.This is wierd...Please help me --Alaric

id start at the starter, see if when you turn the key the thing sends the signal to the starter. Get a meter on there and have someone turn that key. Just don't shock the crap outta yourself If that has power you know its bad, if not, id say check the park neutral w/e switch thats called to see if its working. the car might not know its in park, therefor wont crank.

also try starting it in neutral or another gear...

another thing you can try is to tap on the starter while you turn the key, obviously you cant do all this by yourself

I put it in N and tried cranking it---nothing. Do i need a voltometer or can iuse something else?I'm stumped and I've got school in the morning and I've got a hot date tomarrow afternoon.--Alaric

Jack it up and find the starter. Shouldn't take more than an hour to get it out....if you have tools. If you don't have tools...get some. You can't own a SHO without tools....or a bottomless wallet.

It's probably the s-terminal spade connection on the starter, it gets loose and corroded. Newer design uses a ring-terminal.

Disconnect your battery, disconnect the two positive leads from the mega fuse box, release the two tabs and swing the fuse box out of the way, reach down and wiggle the s-terminal connection a few times (ideally disconnect it, clean with some sandpaper, and re-assemble with some dielectric grease), put everything back together and try again.

where are and what do the positive leads look like coming from the fuse box?and would battery terminal cleaner spray work for dielectric grease ?--Alaric

You don't need to do both simotaniously. I found this out with my 92. Was giving me trouble after I did a Y-Pipe install. Turned out I had smacked the starter a few times with the Y-Pipe while installing it on accident. :woohoo: When I went to go start the car it would not start because it was so low on gas and the driveway was at a incline...however when I stopped cranking the key...the car was still trying to start...took the key out...the car still was trying to turn over the engine! Ended up disconnecting the battery and probably overheated the starter in the process.

I ended up having to leave it in front of my uncles house. I know he was not happy with that so the next day I ran over there...Pounded the starter with a hammer and it started right up! Of course...the starter was never the same, The solenoid would still get stuck occasionaly (In a way to where it was not turning over the engine...a few turns of the keys later it would start), But it lasted long enough for me to save up for a new one.

Wow, I just typed this whole post out about banging out a starter with a hammer. I need a life.

ok iguess i fixed the problem.I looked at the starter and both connectors were off! the little sliding pigtail connector with the yellow wire was completely off and the wire with the clipped boot was off too.Whatcoulda caused this?I didnt hit anything yesterday and I just cruised home yesterday afternoon.Thanks for all the help.---Alaric

I ended up soldering a pig tail to my starter and using a couple 1/4" M/F spade terminals because it kept falling off.
