Lately my 97 has developed a rough idle that feels like a missfire, whenever im sitting at a stop it shakes and you can see the rpm's bounce when it misses. iv cleaned the iacv, throttle body, egr, new spark plugs and boots, new intake manifold gaskets, checked fuel pressure (32psi), anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my car? also for a few days it started stalling out almost everytime i stopped and now for 2 weeks it hasnt even once but still idles rough, the car accelerates and drives smooth though, i can post a video if needed

Isn't 32psi a little low? I don't know what it's supposed to be but that seems a little low to me thiet ke phim truong. I could look it up for you tomorrow when I get to work but someone more familiar with gen 3s should chime in before then.

Could be coils starting to go bad, what plugs did you use. I had issues this Bosch plugs, went back to Motorcraft Finewire on mine.

As others have replied Ignition Coils are the usual culprits.

I would agree with BamSHO...Bosh spark plugs have given me issues in the past. Switched to Iridium IX spark plugs from NGK about 40K miles ago and no issues since.

Bad gas maybe?

Same here. One of your coils is going. You just got to wait for the code, unless your proactive and want to check resistance on them, starting with 5-8 of course. Please tell us you're welded.

The front coils are pretty easy to diagnose. Just unplug one at a time and if there no changes in the way the car idles...there is your bad coil. The back ones are a PIA however.

rear coils & valve cover gaskets

If'n you do need to get to the rear coils and you haven't replaced/restored valve cover gaskets, you can do both at the same time. I did mine (VCGs) almost exactly a year ago, with significant help from folks on this forum as well as links from v8sho.com. I had the covers powder coated bright yellow, as well as the upper intake peices. (I still need to post pics!).

Anyway, if they've never been done, it would be well worth the little bit of extra time, even if you don't have an oil leak from the valve covers.

+1 on coils from Alanisdeals on e-bay. I'm on the same set of 8 I got over 6 years ago.

Iv resistance tested all 8 and they check out fine. And I also did the thing unplugging one at a time to see if it got better. Frint 4 werent it so I changed em out with the back 4. They werent it either. I might just buy 8 off alanis deals and see if it works. If not time to trouble shoot some more

With my old car I found that when they're intermittent like that measuring the resistance wasn't of any help. And it's even possible to get bad coils out of the box or shortly after installation.

I have had the same problem with the wife's Altima (2.5L). Replaced each coil at least twice. I ran an 8 gauge wire direct from the battery right to the block and haven't lost a coil since then, knock on wood.

I found that I could sometimes get a pending code when the car was misfiring by putting it in 2nd and floored it from a stop, bogging it in the process.
