It is my understanding that felpro does not produce 3.0 or 3.2 head gaskets or head sets any longer. I called them directly and was told they have been obsoleted. So I would think once all the ones floating around dry up , we will be left with nothing but maybe victor reins and DNJ. I haven't contacted victor but don't believe they produce them anymore either , all old stock. Anyone else encounter this ?

Well if Rocket Racing can produce head gaskets for the V-8, surely they can do the same for the V-6. So if the DEMAND is there, you might want to contact these folks and see about having them manufactured.

Those aren't OEM Ford or anyone else. Rocket Racing had them made because there was a demand for them as the gaskets quickly because obsolete and depleted. And the price reflects that. These guys seem to like the V-8 SHO so maybe they should look into the market for the V-6. A lot of whining here for the dwindling parts market but try owning a V-8. And expect to PAY to keep these cars working as the choices are coming down to either paying for custom made parts or scrapping/parting them out. The days of cheap ownership are slowly coming to an end. And the parts for these cars have been relatively inexpensive as long as major manufacturers produced them. We see where that's trending though.

You SHO vendors out there that seem to push people to your sites need to step up to the plate especially if you intend to be in business long term. As the parts dry up that are needed to keep the cars running, so does your market. Funny how a company that specializes in Oldsmobiles sells obsolete parts for my V-8 THAT THEY HAVE MADE yet I can't find the same at your businesses. Get a head gasket group buy if you have to. Rod bearings too. Main and thrust bearings, these have been obsolete for years but no one wants to think of ways to get them made even though options are out there. If synchros can be made so can anything else.

I'm not trying to be a complete d*ckhole ... But there is some ignorance in your post. You have NO idea what some of these places go through to keep the parts around already and make these custom parts. These are not there daily jobs , most of them do this as a side job and don't make a ton of money doing it, sometimes even loosing money.

Vendors step it up you say ? More people need to step it up I say. Tons of people cry and complain but for 95% of them that ALL they do. You think it's so easy and cheap I dare you to go look into it yourself.

Again sorry for sounding like a ass ... But you really do not have a idea of what these people go through for the tittlywinks of praise and $ they get back.

I could have rod and main bearings start being made tomorrow. All im waiting on is a $10,000 check from Jimtash. If you had read over the years many if not all of the obsolete parts have been looked into...

Bearings , nobody will make less then 1000 sets at a time. If you want a set without doing that you could buy/borrow a new set and take to a local reputable bearing shop and maybe they might make you a one off duplicate for some ridiculous amount of money.

For as flaky as the sho community is ( not all but majority ) I would never sink 5-10+ thousand dollars to sell a few sets of bearings a year. If you are that loaded by all means take the reins and sit back and wait for the "investment" to pay off in 20 years - never.

I know I personally spent quite a few hours a week on top of my full-time job looking into SHO parts and ways to get parts made/collected/alternates and also trying to have a life outside of work with my family.

True, at some point, you will be faced with the decision to move on to another project, or to make the SHO a garage queen with minimal wear & tear for the infinite future. Unless someone with DEEP pockets comes along, highly unlikely that aftermarket parts will continue to be available. Sad, but true.

I think we're getting there. Have you looked for GenI and II SHO's for sale on ebay lately? The decrease in the number for sale on there is striking. Craigslist has something to do with it, but I think the crusher might have even more.

I also can also verify that Fel Pro is no longer making head sets or head gaskets. I called them directly and was told this.

I'm going out to my shop and cry for a little while now. :(

Damn, people, make your own. it's not rocket science or magic. Find out what the three layers are made of. Find someone with a laser cutter and a relatively good set of measurement skills and go to town. If the layers have to be bonded together, find out which epoxy to use, an old block and set of heads that are flat and use them as a press.

As for the bearings, find some of the same diameter and have them machined or laser cut down to correct width.

They've raced all sorts of engines on the salt flats with home made gaskets made out of cardboard. With Google and some old fashioned ingenuity we can make some gaskets.

Hey when the group buy for Gen 3 lowering springs was in effect, who sent them a check for the full amount? And waited over a year before asking for a refund because others who pledged to buy them never came through? So like I said, either the people who own these cars start forking over the cash to maintain them or they need to quit whining about not being able to find parts for them and move on. If people here put themselves down for something without the resources to actually follow through, then that right there will **** these cars quicker than anything else. And yeah, the vendors here need to step up to the plate. Otherwise they're going to go the way of the Dodo.

On top of owners who think of these cars as disposable or that don't want to SPEND the money or LEARN about how to maintain them. They're not devoted like the people here. And I can look on Craigslist now and find a few in which you're right. It's easier to list cars locally than on Ebay.

This is a '91 Plus. In descent shape and I've seen it in real life. Looks like the owner just maintained it.

But then we get to this one, slightly modified with racing stripes and a "DUB" tag upfront:

Or this one with a broken timing belt:

And here's a V-8:

Good cars are still out there. But many will end up in the crusher unfortunately because they aren't being sold. Maybe there needs to be a Craigslist sticky here so we can post these ads and hopefully keep the cars from being scrapped.
