Rim flaking

I have a nice set of rims but I left two of them on over winter on they look like shit from the salt were the clear coat peeled off. Can they be made to look new again?

Yes, Just google search "Rim Repair" in whatever city you live in. At least where I live, There are quite a few rim repair/reconditioning companies.

Why not just powdercoat them? That finish I would think, will hold up longer than paint.

PC is a not very good idea on aluminum wheels. Heating up that aluminum will stress it, and you don't wanna do that to aluminum...

The common alloys used are 356-T6 for cast wheels and 6061-T6 for forged wheels. Many common casting alloys, such as 356, are aged at 325F . If exposed to a powder coat cure schedule of 375-400F for 10 minutes or so, some overageing could occur and the fatigue life of the wheel could be reduced.

ASM reference book gives the T6 aging temp for 6061 as: 350F. FYI

ditch the crappy aluminum rims and get some knockoffs. they look right up your alley.
