Is it necessary to remove the EGR tube so there will be enough clearance to remove the Right Hand valve cover?

From my valve gapping procedure:

31. Remove any dirt or debris from around the edge of the valve covers prior to lifting them.

32. Remove the valve covers. It is best to remove the rear bank valve cover first so as not to lift it over the open front bank.

There will be interference from the fuel lines so it helps to tie-wrap them back to the left. The large electrical cable bundle under the fuel lines will also have to be lifted and moved to the passenger side to allow clearance. There may also be some interference from the heater hoses on the right side. The interfering heater hose can be removed from its metal tubing section for clearance.

On the 3.2L engine there is interference from the EGR line on the right. There is a flex section in the EGR line that should allow it to be moved enough to let the valve cover be lifted.

If reusing the valve cover seals, be careful not to tear them as they may be stuck to the head, the valve cover or both and usually at the silicone spots on the passenger side. If the valve cover does not easily come loose, you may use a Flathead screwdriver to gently pry under the far right end of the cover by the short screw bosses. Do not place the screwdriver under the mating surface or seal of the valve covers.

33. Important: Plug the two 1/2" oil return holes in the lower corners of each head (four total) with paper towels to prevent any foreign objects (such as the tappet holder) from falling into the holes.
