Well after some help from Bacernate I scanned my sho with an autoenginuity laptop setup…seems that my miss is not the coils but things are pointing towards a clogged injector. I want to send them for out of car cleaning/flow matching considering that I have run bottles of red line cleaner through them already (some improvement but not enough). I do have the little ring disconnect tool for the fuel rail but I am not certain on how to go about pulling the rail out and away from the injectors. Is there another tool needed to separate the injectors from the rail? Do I just unbolt things until I gain clear access or are there some short cuts?
Thanks in advance

On my first V8 I had a similar problem, I had taken my car to Ford for a diagnosis and they had told me that there was a blockage or something wrong in the fuel rail. So I swapped it out with another one and it wasn't the problem. It ended up being a coil, that particular car never showed any miss fire codes at all which always threw me off. But if you want to take out your injectors you have to take off the upper intake and like 4 10mm bolts hold on the fuel rail, and I had never used any special tools so you should have no problems.

You don't need to take the whole UIM or surge tank off. Just loosen the silicone couplings for the four front intake tubes and unbolt the short section of UIM from the butterflys. Lift up on the base using a screwdriver in the small notch relief at the base and the short section will pop out. You can unbolt and remove the fuel rail and injectors with the rest of the intake in place.

Doing the method above I swapped out an injector in ~30 minutes total.

thankyou fellow shoforum members!!!

after I remove the rails+injectors how do I separate the injectors from the rail? I don't want to ***** anything.

BTW, I scanned the system and data logged several 15~30 mile drives. There were no coil related missfires (there shouldn't be since I have 8 new coils). There was however a definite rich condition in the #1 bank.

The injectors are held in the rail by simple O-rings. They just pop out. You need to be very careful putting the injectors and rail back on the LIM though, as the ports where the injectors fit into the LIM has sharp edges and you can easily tear an O-ring during install. If you do tear one, you need to go to an automotive parts store to get O-rings suitable for fuel contact - do NOT use any old O-ring, as the fuel will eventually degrade the rubber and cause it to leak.

Subject P/N is F6DZ-9229-A

There are 2 per injector, the pack of 8 that I have is labeled as "CM-4806".

I wouldn't reinstall those without new O-rings.

**** up the o-rings with a light film of oil before assembling them to the rail and lower manifold. Once the rail is re-secured, you can prime the fuel system several times by cycling the key to ensure no leaks. A ripped o-ring is usually really easy to identify because it readily ****** fuel everywhere. Once you've verified no leaks you can re-install the front runners.

sorry i haven't gotten back to you on your data logs. some a##hole clipped the front of my 97 parked in the street. so i've been hanging fenders and bumpers for a week.
i don't necessarily believe that you have a clogged injector but maybe a leaking one. your fuel trim at idle on bank 1 is sky high at 25% and your lean on bank 2. see if you can put your data logs on the forum and maybe one of the sho wizards will come to your rescue.
paul? kirk? doug? where are you?
i seriously doubt that you have a coil problem as your mode 6 data shows absolutely no misfires.
side note[if your car has a misfire mode 6 will and i mean it will show on the scanner]
give me a call and i can discuss things in person.
p.s. i hate typing:evilgrin::evilgrin:

no sweat, I got food poisoning and wasn't moving around too much anyway.
I meant to say leaking...my bad. Once I get the injectors back (cleaning, flow testing, etc) I'll install them and give you a call...later next week hopefully.
Sorry to hear about your car.

I just tried to order these from fastpartsnetwork and the order came back cancelled because they're no longer available.

Is there another place that has these in stock or are they a generic size that can be picked up at an AZ/Napa/O'Reilly store?

FWIW I have reused mine a couple of times. I do **** them lightly with some silicone grease first.

I don't know if my problem is fixed as yet but I can recommend WitchHunter Performance for cleaning injectors. I bought a used set and shipped them to WH. I actually mailed them via USPS First Class, I received an email from Howard at WH three days later...he had received them and they were done and ready to be shipped back. I received them back (via USPS) four days later. The injectors had been tested electrically, and the flow rate checked prior to the replacement of filter+ O rings and cleaning. They started out with about 5% variance and after cleaning they were within 1.5%. The cost? $17 per injector.
I was very pleased with the service and it was nice to get new O rings and filters without someone trying to do a bunch of add ons to a bill.
Now if this only fixes my miss I'll be a happy camper.
