I purchased my SHO from a private party recently and he disclosed to me that the remote start was not functioning in the vehicle. He said it stopped working after he installed his Livernois MyCal tuner, but since he was living in Florida at the time and wasn't using it all that much, he forgot about it.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

The horn beeps twice and then no start. Looking online it sounds like it could be the hood switch, or a door open fault so I am going to try and troubleshoot those today, but wanted to see if someone else had this problem.

Cheers!

Our tune actually would ahve no affect on this but if you wanted to check and see you could put the car back to stock and try the remote start, more than likely it was malfunctioning and he decided to try to cover it to sell the car, also is this a factory remote start or an aftermarket that the dealer had installed after the fact

Are you trying it with the doors locked? Mine only works when they are locked. Lock it with the fob and hit the button twice and hold it down on the second press?

Shouldnt have to hold it, just lock it and press the button twice, unless its aftermarket then thats a different story and could eb the issue entirely

Is the check engine light on?
No CEL, no codes stored in the computer.

I was thinking about trying the stock flash to see if it fixed it. It is a factory unit with mercury switch under the hood. It is the separate small fob which I believe was a dealer installed option as there is no button on the normal fob.

I have tried it doors locked, and doors unlocked. I went around the vehicle as well and made sure the doors, trunk, and hood are all closed.

If it is a separate FOB it must be a 10-12. Have you tried replacing the battery in the FOB itself? It's at about the right age for that to finally die.

I'd also check the hood switch with a continuity tested to make sure it is functioning. It won't remote start if it thinks the hood is up.

I have my 2015 two weeks and my remote start does not work. No honks and no start. Salesman displayed it and it worked. I think I may have been trying it with the doors unlocked, based on what I see above I am going to try it with the doors locked. Info and discussions on this forum are priceless. Thanks

I really don't think it's the fob because of the fact that it still connects, just does not start.

I will need to pick up a continuity tester to see if it is the switch, thanks.

PS Yes, it is a separate fob.

The horn honking twice indicates the remote start event times out due to a fault. The car will confirm the input of remote start by flashing the parking lights. Honking the horn is the way the the car tells you it didn't start

Battery voltage cant be low, hood switch works, check engine light off, transmission range in park, ignition off before remote start will work. Doors can be open, but must be locked. The wake circuit between the bcm and pcm can be faulted causing the no start. The wake circuit fault will take about 5 seconds to honk the horn if open.

I think there are a few more. Can't remember what the owners manual says.

Not knowing what year car you have, or if you have a scalable vehicle security system (separate fob) I know a 2016 Taurus has pid data in the BCM that indicates what the car is not seeing.

I would open the hood and play with the good switch and see if anything happens when pushing it down.

From a previous post of his its a 2011 which means it has the hard wired remote start system in it. Not built in like a 13+

Have to find the manual for it and see what faults it senses.

E1 – HORN SOUNDS TWO TIMES When trying to activate the remote start, if the horn sounds twice, this indicates either the hood switch or brake switch is active. • Verify hood position, and close if necessary. Verify hood switch is adjusted correctly and not registering a signal when closed. • Verify the hood switch wire is not grounded or shorted between the switch and the PowerCode module. Test the hood switch input wire with the hood closed to make sure the circuit is not showing ground. Correct as required. • Verify the brake switch is not being pressed, or the brake lights are not on. • Verify the brake switch wire is connected to the proper vehicle circuit and shows the proper response and polarity when actuating the brake pedal (see vehicle specific installation instructions). Did any of these correct the issue and allow the system to Remote Start? •

Correct jmr061, it is a 2011. Sorry I did not mention this in the original post.

I flashed the computer back to stock today and received same result, two honks, no start.

I am going to start working on diagnosing an electrical issue this week when I find the time. Probably going to be a loose ground that happened over time. Will report back with my findings.

Thanks for the help everyone.

So far I have ruled out the switch going bad, as well as a bad ground. At this point, I think I am just going to have to take it to the dealership.

Mine did the same thing. There was a code that needed clearing. I didn't have a check engine light. Used my programmer, checked and cleared codes. Worked immediately afterwards. I know you said previously you had done this, but I would check again.

Update for this interested.

I finally broke down because it is December and took the car into my dealership. Remote start module went bad. Waiting on the new part #19G367. $101 for the part for me to install, $130 to diagnose the problem.

Still going to be worth it.

Bonus picture of the car on winter wheels.
