Mine will do this from time to time. I simply unlock then do the lock and start twice and it always starts. The key is to unlock it once it goofs up like this.

I know it sucks to have to do but try that and see.

I always tell people to hit the lock twice first, then the start twice (hold the start for a half-second the second time).

Sometimes one will not press the lock hard enough, and then it will not be happy. If you press lock twice, you are pretty sure to actually succeed in one of the two presses.

Your car will disable the remote start and honk as you've indicated if there's a problem of some sort as well. A check engine light, stored code in the PCM, or the like.

There may be an issue to have checked out....

I had my remote start goof up again the other day. I tried this method but it would not remote start. I had to unlock, lock, then start x2 and it worked like it should have. Just my experience.

Have a McParts load test your underhood battery..my 11 Explorer started to be flaky with the remote start on cold mornings but it went away after I replaced the battery.

I had this issue and I tied it to me hitting the buttons too fast. Mine said you have 3 secs to do it and I felt it was a shorter time than I actually had. Once I slowed down, I never had an issue. Correlation isn't always causation, but it worked for me, lol.
