Hey guys! I just bought a 1997 SHO from someone in town. It has a keypad but it did not come with any sort of key fobs for the remote key less. Apparently they never had any. They also weren't the first owner of the car. They did not even know what the code was on the keypad (I found the sticker).

I'm wondering if this module will support a key fob if I eBay one. Here's what I've found out so far. It does have the keypad and the corresponding module and it seems to be working perfectly. The module beneath the dash has what appears to be an antenna connected to it, looks very much like a standard car stereo antenna connector. I've also read about programming the key fobs so I tried putting it into programming mode to see if it would. It did, the doors locked and unlocked on the fifth turn of the key.

I'm having a hard time identifying if this was standard equipment on the SHO or if it was originally included with my car. I figured that what I have so far might be enough information for someone on this forum to give me some advice. If not, then I'll be willing to dig around some more. I believe it probably does have the ability to support the key fob, but would loathe to buy one and find out it doesn't.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Yes, just buy the keyfob. They get lost easily. IIRC, keyless entry was standard on Gen 3s.

I don't know if the programming method is any different on the gen3s (I'm a gen2 guy), but if it is, it's simply a matter of shorting a jumper out...

Thanks! I'm under the impression that all you have to do is do the key from off to run 5 times and it goes into programming mode. Then it just requires a button press.

Nice site! I do have a manual but that's going to be bookmarked for future use for sure. The original owner, I think, took wonderful care of the car. The 2nd, I'm not so sure about. Luckily they only had the car for just over 3 years and 20k miles. I'm also positive they had no idea exactly what they had, since I managed to get the car for $1,400.

So I got my remote from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=200235931037&rd=1

I'm trying to program it, it does not appear to be working.

Here's the procedure I'm using as I'm not having any luck finding a different one:

Turn ignition key from off to on 5 times within 10 seconds, the doors should lock and unlock to indicate programming mode (they do)

Press any button on the remote, doors should cycle again to indicate programming, they do not.

I tried that link for the manual but the manual does not, itself, have the procedure in it. I tested both of the batteries with a multimeter and sure enough they both read 3v strongly. Am I doing something wrong?

Never mind! Apparently I just had to hold that little bugger down for a second or two and then the locks cycled right away. Turned car to off, locks cycle yet again to let me know I was finished. Now it works perfectly. That panic button was sure embarrassing though, didn't realize I actually had to put the key in the ignition to shut it up.

You don't have tp put the key in the ignition but you have to hit it again in between honks. I took my remote apart and put a piece of paper between the contacts. Thanks who ever gave me that idea. :0

ahh, this security system is playing with me. At least it was easy to program. I also have a chipped key that came with it, but I'm not sure it'll work because the head on it is smaller than my original key. Maybe it will, I'm going to try to get it cut.
