I know there are people on here that have remote starters on their SHOs (ATX and MTX), and from what I know, they work fine...

For those of you that have them in your mtx, did you use some sort of nutral safety switch? I was thinking about doing this and i am curious about how its done the right way.

I'm going to install one soon in my MTX.
But I think its just a wire that jump the clutch interlock for the starter. You must be sure that the car is in neutral (and, also very helpful : the parking brake is set)

I've had one installed on my 91. In summer I hate having it on because I really didn't like the idea of someone fooling around with the electricals. But...it makes up for it in the winter.

as for the clutch interlock switch, i pulled it off and a fuse fits perfectly in there, but its not to snug so i pushed in the contancts towards eachother to hold more securely but also used a piece of electrical tape to hold it in. worked very well

they sell universal kits for autostarters. usually it fits ATX and MTX . sometimes to only have to jump/cut a wire thats sticking out of the box , to tell the autostarter its an ATX or not , depending on models.

i installed one in my 93 mtx that i used to have and it worked great! there's nothing like having your car warmed up for you when you get out to it! definately need to have a working parking brake! believe me! my friend installed one in his 95 mtx and all was great until his stupid girlfriend came and got his car from work one day and when she brought it back, she just left it in gear without the pb and lets just say that his car went on a ride when he hit his remote start from inside work! man concrete walls just don't seem to move very well when a car runs down the side of them!

Yea, i have a Viper alarm system with remote start and it is awesome. I bypassed the clutch interlock and i rigged up a contact under the shift boot so that if the shifter is anywhere but in the center of the shift pattern, the car will not start... Kind of a cool idea for people like me who sometimes forget to shift out of gear :)

I have only seen this done 'the right way' once.

When I worked at Circuit City, there was an installer there with a 5-speed supercoupe.

He fabbed up a "dual neutral safety switch" that had 2 contacts. One was activated by the parking brake and one was activated by the shifter.

Then all he had to do was bypass the clutch lockout switch

He refused to make one for me...he stated that he made one for someone else and the guy ran his car into traffic and it got smashed.

I looked at a few for my MTX and my favourite one kept the car running after the ignition was turned to off, and the shut the car down after the drivers door was opened/closed. Pretty mindless when you come to think of it!

My friend syP has one just like that in his MTX, you set the Ebrake then tap the brake pedal 2 times letting it know you are in Neutral. then it honks 2 times quietly, you remove the key then then get out, once all doors are closed, it shuts off.

I'm running a Compustar remote start/alarm system in my MTX, and it works flawlessly, get to where you want to go, put your e-brake down, wait 3 seconds, turn the key off, engine will still run, get out of the car, shut the door, engine will turn off and vehicle will arm.

Put a relay on the power wire that's activated by the signal wire for the parking brake. If the parking brake signal wire is not on, then the car won't start. I've got 15 shock sensor/starter ****/remote start/alarm/keyless entry, systems for Fords in my trunk right now :D
