Picked up a reinfroced trans mount, and was wondering what i should do with the engine damper. It has been suggested that I remove it entirely as it is not needed with the reinforced mounts. What do you all think?

One thing bothers me about done up trans mounts. Well there only bolted on the tranny with 2 bolts into soft aluminum. I wouldn't like to see my tranny case get cracked open. I hope you have good motor mounts and are not relying on the tranny mount to take up the TQ.

That is good insight into reinforced tranny mounts that I had not considered and that I may take into account, however it does not really answer my question: do I really not need the engine damper on that side with the reinforced mount or is that a myth?

Im running with reinforced motor mounts and a reinforced ts mount. I removed the dampeners a LONG time ago. They are simply not needed with built mounts.

Plus, it cleans up the engine bay, clears a little space, and as for the rear dampener on the pulley side of the motor.... makes adjusting the serpentine belt SO much easier :naughty:

anyone have pics of the re-inforced tranny mount? i'd really be interested to see what was done to re-inforce it. I wouldnt think it would be a problem with the aluminum tranny case as long as you had matching re-inforced motor mounts.

The trans mounts that I build are very simple.

A single stainless bolt two washers, and a nut limits the stretch of the mount.

It might be a problem, depending on what mounts you get. Some reinforced mounts still move around and will be fine with a reinforced tranny mount that has some slack, too. If you have a straight solid one that will not budge, like mine, you better have some motor mounts that don't move one bit. This is the only reason I don't have one in my 92, it has SHONUT Reinforced motor mounts and they still move around [don't know about the Extremes]. Of course this is mainly if you are running around with aluminum subframe bushings. If not, the old stock bushing will take some of the torquing.
