It's been many years since I messed with one of these. Does it just slide over the plug? Can you crimp it a bit to make connection tighter?

no, the sleeeve for the lighter must be screwed in like a light bulb, but the little plug that connects to the back of the sleeve is impossible to put on once you screw the sleeve in ...i tried pulling the connector through and plugging it on before screwing the sleeve in , but that don't work either...they give absolutely no room to do this...

I had to do this when I bought my car. It's rather easy if you take the right steps to do it.

Did you take the the shift control panel off and then the ashtray?

If you take the ashtray completely out, then it's a breeze to hook it back up. An OEM Door tool works great for this.

I don't believe so.. but you start at the cup holder and then work your way back. They are all interconnected. Make sure not to pry to hard though or else your tabs will break (and the panels will become wobbly).

You could try a quick search on v8sho.com. They might have one.

IIRC, you can take the ashtray out without taking off the entire bezel. Seems like it was just a matter of squeezing the ashtray towards the rear to get it to pull out. I'll try in the morning and report back.

You take the cupholder piece of the console out first. Then the ashtray part just slides out to the rear. That gives you the room you need to get in there to slide the wire on the tab.

Everything connects together... you have to start with the cupholders or else you will break the tabs.

Open up your console, and you will see that the cubholders kind of sit on top of the console at the very font. If you use a OEM Door removal tool, you can use it as leverage to pry the piece up.

Let me know if you cannot figure it out and I will take some pictures.

That's right! Sorry, I haven't messed with the lighter in awhile and got confused. To the OP: Hope you get it all taken care of.

You have to take the shifter panel out.. don't forget that. (Everyone seems to skip that.. I broke off a tab the first time I pulled mine out)

Just remember there are 3 pieces and the middle piece (that goes around the shifter) has 2 tabs on both sides.

BE GENTLE WITH IT!
