Just curious....my AC compressor is locked up and needs to be replaced. I have some dough in hand and wanted to find out what would be a reasonable price for a shop to replace and recharge the system. Thanks! :thumb:

You're going to have to replace the accumulator/drier, orifice, and have the entire system flushed due to the metal shavings likely throughout the system due to the compressor seizing. Plus the R&R of the compressor, some new o-rings, vacuuming, charging, and leak-testing.

So, you're looking at about $400-$500 in parts, 4-5 hours labor, plus misc supplies (solvent, oil, refrigerant, etc.). You could easily approach the $1000 mark paying someone else to do it. You could save some money supplying parts yourself if the shop will accept them, but the labor is going to be the same regardless.

We just did an entirely new system on a V8 car due to rust contamination throughout the system. With all new lines, evap, condenser, and compressor, the parts total alone was over $800, plus about 10 hours labor (dash removal is fun!).
