Hey guys I reinstalled my subs in my 1g and noticed some rattling, so I did some poking around. I came to find out my subs are actually pushing my rear window out about 1/2-3/4". The seal is not completley broken but there is play, im not sure if i took the headliner out if i could get some silicone in there to reglue it or should i take it in. If i do take it in do i need a new glass peice or can they just put a new seal arpund it?

Thanks

Damn. I have subs also but I think if they were causing this kind of problem they would either be turned down or removed. That kind of bass eventually causes lots of problems. **** i'm already re-evaluating mine because the little screws in the frame around my sunroof are vibrating loose and one of them fell out.

I think the glass is held in place by the adhesive that is applied to the body panel and the glass simply lays in it. If you take away what is pushing it out, it will try to come back to its starting point, but that won't happen until you have some very warm days. On that occassion, give it a little help by applying some even pressure to the outside of the glass, and give it some time.

I looked at it today i can push it out far enough to get a caulk gun in there and lay some new adhesive for it. It should work for a little while until i can get it fixed right to keep the water out.

I've just gone through this on my 93. Glass shops will not want to cut your rear window out, there's a fairly good chance of it breaking or the seal being damaged and the glass is worth about as much as your car. Several shops quoted me around 900-1000 for the rear glass. I guess it's not as common to replace the rear as the front. The seal comes attached to the glass already, and I don't believe it is separately replaceable. My rear glass was leaking pretty badly when it rained(my car has no sunroof, don't even mention it!!!). My local Glass Doctor franchise pulled down the back of the headliner, ran a bead of urethane around the inside pinchweld, and then used a needle attachment and pulled back the outside rubber strip and ran urethane inside the exterior channel. I had it done a few weeks ago, and it seems to be holding out water pretty well. I have a single 12 inch sub with a 400 watt amp, and my rear speakers are amplified as well. I think this caused the problem to get worse, because there was no leaks a year ago when I got the car. The rear glass in my 94 leaked the same way too!

I paid right around $250 to have my rear glass replaced with new glass after it shattered. It was loose and vibrating and I was trying to hold off as long as I could. Get it fixed quick or it will turn into you cleaning glass out of your car.
