Hi guys im new to the forum. Im 19 and purchased a 93atx last summer for about 1800. Had 96,000. completely flawless interior and exterior its black with half and half grey on the interior. I love it...unfortunately its been sitting now for about 4-5 months. I need to come up with the $ 2000 to put it back on the road an insure it (gotta love massachusetts). I will have the money very soon but before i do that i need to do the rear brakes. I did them recently when it was on the road but my rear passenger side kept locking up on me im not sure why. I took auto shop in high school so i know BASICS haha and i mean BASICS. i however plan to do a complete overhaul from the rear lines to the pads. any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

Having the rear brakes locking up could be from a few things. By now it's time to replace both rear hoses (run you about $50-60); These can look fine from the outside but will collapse on the inside holding pressure to the caliper rather than releasing it.

Also, it might be time for rebuilt calipers. O'Riley's has them for about $34 plus core charge. Grab some silgilde (silicon grease or something like it) from Napa/wherever for the new slider pins that come with them. Or pick up a tube of it anyway and grease the pins you already have if you're going to keep the calipers you have now.

Last but not least, If your parking brake cables are not releasing fully, this can do it too. Perhaps see if you can move the lever (that the cable connects to) on the caliper back any more. There are a few more things that can go wrong (blockage at the proportion valve, ect) but these three are the biggies IMHO.

Thanks for the reply. I do plan on replacing the calipers. I heard there a bitch to bleed though because of the proportioning valve. I will try an move back the lever back for the cable . although would the brakes not being bled properly wen i replaced the pads before cause them to stick? (i already replaced the pads once and one caliper because i didnt know they turned in also didnt know about the proportioning valve tried to bleed em barely any fluid came out so i tested em said hey it stops and drove it then i had a glowing rotor)

Yep, you didn't bleed it enough. I made the same mistake and the same outcome happened. Bleed them, bleed them, bleed them, then bleed them somemore. And when you are done bleed them again.

Well, my bleeding comment was in conjunction of you opening up the system. You would probably benefit from new lines, calipers, and greasing up the slider pins real well. After you do all that..bleed, bleed, bleed...

...Josh..I think you were stalking me last night.. :squint: ... :D

I would beg to differ.....
I am simply a product of my SHO and this forum for ~3 years (which includes many mistakes and questions I have learned from, and the great minds of this forum lending their experience).
