rear brake sticking... any ideas

every now and then the driver side rear brakes will drag for the entire ride... no the parking brake is not on... i thought that the first time but its not... but the brake is applied enough to make it smoke when i am done driving... also it makes for a ****** ride so its really annoying... could it be the rusty p.o.s. proportioning valve in the rear... or prolly just a caliper???

In order of probability:

1. Crusty slider pins

2. Failing brake hose

3. Bad caliper

Unlikely that it's the proportioning valve.

change 1,2 and 3. if it got that hot, the caliper is wasted. hose cheap enough. I would do both sides. and change both rotors. I went thru same ordeal 6 months ago. pulled into city and my right rear rotor was glowing orange.

Add rusty e-brake cable to Rocky's list as #4 and bump the caliper to #4 if you're in the Rust Belt.
