So I am pulling my rear control arms. They come off the spindles fine. The nuts off the bolts at the box came off with no issues, but I cant get the bolts out. THey are rust welded to the bushings. Since I am just going to replace them I decided to get out my recip saw and have at it. Either the blades I have are super cheap or the metal in the bushing is super hard.....took 2 blades to get through 1 of the adjustable bushings.

All this extra work because of the rust!!!!

Haha' been there dude, bring plenty of beer, a HOT torch, and a sledge hammer. I found that heating, hitting, and twisting in that cycle worked ( eventually) for all of mine.

Wouldn't be a big deal if I could fit my air hammer up there. Gonna get some good blades and goto town. I originally was gonna try and save these, blast'em, paint and press in new bushing.......that plan has been shot!!

Rust: The thing that can make a half hour job take all day. Been there, done that. The most recent was an 04ish Infinity G35. Could not get the control arm bolt to come out of the bushing. I don't believe I could use the torch because the fuel lines were very close. No fun at all. But, I always win. I don't let a car beat me. Just keep going and you'll get it. Just remember to put some grease in there before you slip the new bolts in!

Good blades will help melwalkie or starett ones are good also do not do what 95% of people do with those saws and go wide open. If you do you just heat the blade and remove the temper then the teeth round off and your not cutting anything. Go slow and use cutting oil for best results.

the inner sleeve in the bushings is a hard metal, it does not cut easily. they also have a slit the entire length. If you cut the outer hex part off, then the rubber, you may be able to go at that slit with a chisel or something and expand it to release the bolt. BTDT, not fun.

Lenox also makes quality blades.

I don't work on my winter beater for this specific reason. :)

Yep. This car has not seen snow since I got it, but before that it was a DD for 160K miles. The person kept it incredibly clean, so there is no rust on the panels etc......but alot of fasteners have been rusted solid.
