My radiator fan is not working correctly. My engine overheats when it is hot out and I do a lot of stop and go driving. But when I am on the highway it is fine. I have checked the fuses, and they seem to be fine. My fan spins as if it is in good condition. I think it may be a wiring problem that the fan it not getting power. Has anyone else ever had a similar problem or does anyone else know what the problem could be and how to fix it. Thanks

Does the fan kick on when you turn on the A/C?

Have you listened for the fan to kick on during your stop and go traffic?

It could be the wiring, the fan relay, or the ECT sensor.

I would also try to pull codes to see if you are running rich or if there is another problem.

A/C doesn't work, Fan doesn't kick on

My A/C is not currently working, and the fan does not kick on when I am stopped.

Hit the MAX A/C button on your ETAC to see if the fan turns on anyway (even if your AC dont work right now). Same thing happend to me, but my motor was bum. Fan would spin freely anyway, but not on it's own :)

Also to test the fan, disconnect its electrical connector then give it direct power from the battery. If it doesn't turn on the motor is shot.

The fan motor tends to accumulate some of the fine grit ingested through the grill. The motor looks sealed, but the brushes and commutator of the original fan motor on my car were toast and the motor's interior was full of grit. If you can find a replacement for the motor, you will be many dollars ahead. If not, you can buy the entire fan and shroud assembly through Ford. Keep cool.

This happend to me recently too , I replaced my thermostat and my upper rad. hose thinking it was the problem. It turned out to be the rad. cooling fan. I ordered another one from Lordco ( I live in Canada ) and it was the wrong cooling fan motor. I couldn't find one anywhere except ford who would have charged me around $500 for a new one  So I called a starter and alternator repair shop to see if they had any brushes because mine were ground down to nothing. To make a long story short they had the right brushes and I only paid $20 cdn. for them , and now my fan works beautifully  . So if you can find some brushes from a starter or alternator repair shop you will save alot of money. Good luck. :thumb:
