if you have intake manifold gaskets in good condition (black paint still intact, reusable) do you recommend using rtv when you replace them?
thanks

DO NOT USE RTV!!!

They should be dry. You don't want a piece of that going into your engine, do you???

If the black paint is chipped, just solvent clean the gaskets and spray-paint them with some flat black paint.

ok, thanks alot guys, seemed to make sense to do it dry to me (chunks o' stuff breaking off...) but i just wanted to make sure.

i think i can take the color question, if the black paint is jacked up the gasket will be different thicknesses in different places and there may be a tiny hole in the the seal. that right?

:snicker: oh and steve, think it'll hurt if i use blue paint instead? :bonk:

You can use Permatex "Copper-Spray-A-Gasket". I don't think it is necessary, but if it will give you peace of mind it will not hurt.

It is very important to have the intake loosely asembled so that the intake will sit properly on the heads, and fully seat when the bolts a torqued. rangerj
