Does anyone make a M8 X 20 mm Bolt with a lifting hook attatched to it? I was kind of wondering exactally what to bolt to the head to remove it. I was looking at the drawings for the engine support bracket, and seen the peice of steel there, with the clevis hooks, and the 5/16 chain links... but was wondering how thick that steel needs to be, and where i could find it / some.

I was basically just going to find a load leveler from harbor freight, and attach it directly to the lifting hook on the front of the engine, and then use the links / bracket on the back side? I'm assuming that would make it pretty even as far as weight distrubition goes. ? I really dont know..

As I'm tearing into it, i'm almost tempted to yank the heads and everything down to the short block, building the new one up as I go. Then I wouldnt be so concerned about getting the old one out as delicately, but then again, I'll lose my lifting points and would have to use some tie straps or something? I just feel like I'm at a 'stuck' point here... anxious to get this thing back together.. :)

Unless someone near northern Indiana thats done this before wants to stop by to say hello, who has done this before... I do have a grill, and can find steaks and beer... theres direct tv and fiber optic internet access in the garage.. its pretty comfy in there.. :) I would even entertain offers if ya wanted a little money too.. as I would be most greatful to learn from someone with experience. :thumb: :hail:

P.S. I'm an electrician too if you would want to trade labor for labor. :naughty:

if your removing it from the top, toss some tow ropes around the exhaust manifolds and hook onto your lift and hoist away.

you could always remove the front suspension, lower the subframe onto some 4x4s constructed into a dolly (similar to a furniture dolly), disconnect everything in the bay, unbolt the subframe, then lift the car up over the engine. roll the subframe assembly out from under the car, then lower the car onto jackstands.

If you have an extra body to help, slinging the driveline should be fine. Otherwise, get an engine load leveler, and use that (rent at rental place, or buy on eBay, even Autozone had them from memory).

Ideally, IMO, you want the trans side tipped down a bit vs. the front of the motor coming out through the top. As for hardware, any decent hardware store will have hardened bolts and will also have hooks if you want to make something.

I guess i was just nervous about the bracket.. Lowes has the bolts I could use to go into the head, and I've seen good hooks from harbor freight, I guess I just dont know how thick of a peice to use. I have colbolt bits for drilling into stainless, so making something shouldnt be too hard.. I wish I could find anything with that angle and cut it down to fit with a die grinder pretty close to those dimensions. Harbor freight had those levelers too, and I'm going there soon to get some of it. Should I just get the leveler somewhat level and centerd between those 2 points more or less with chains? I'm probally worrying too much and it will come out fine.. but better safe than sorry ya know? :)

I just halfway screwed a bolt into the driver's side rear intake support bracket. Then i attached a chain from the lift hook to that bolt and then centered a hook to that chain and lifted with a winch. Does not take much to pull it out thats for sure.

i pulled my motor in 2 hours using a engind hoist and a chain. i used the stock 12mm bolts that hold the intake to the motor and yanked away. Im not that far from u. when are u trying to do this?

Well I'm laid off here for another week or two, and will have a lot of time to do stuff on it. This weather is drivng me nuts too.. makes me worry about surface rust on all this shit. I've been cleaning up most of every thing, and my intake is in half waiting on couplers, but if I could get the old block out, strap the heads down on the new one, bolt on my new flywheel, and drop her in, that would be ****. If you have an engine hoist you could bring I'd just go ahead and give u $100 bux for all that gas.. 320 miles round trip ? Because wtf am i going to do with an engine hoist after i put this in? lol would save me from trying to sell it later. If not I'll get one and you bring the chains. Let me know.. probally after thursday would be best, as my check will be late im sure due to national hangover day and all. :)

LoL I love how you guys make it seem easy as pie.. :) Maybe thats why i'm not a real mechanic.. :) I've fixed a lot on these cars in my day's with my SHO"s ... 91 plus, 92, and now this 92... But never pulled one, or got the chance to do a valve adjustment. Oh yea, and a clutch job.. I should learn those are mighty expensive.. :)
