I'm in the market for a new AC Compressor. I was ready to purchase one from AZ (online) and they are apparently temporairly out of stock of the SHO Compressor. I shopped around and found outrageous prices or incorrect part numbers. Their is one that I located on ebay. But, I have a question regarding how the seller is advertising it. He is stating that it can work with any SHO 89-95 which I know our compressor is universal MTX-ATX throughout the 6 years. But, he states that the compressor is fit to work with R12 or R134a(it is a brand new rebuild). I thought that a compressor had to have certain gaskets and such for R12 and in the same way be properly prepared for R134a? Am I incorrect, and he is properly marketing the compressor or is a compressor built a certain way for the specific referigerant used? I am running R134a and I don't want to install this compressor if it was fit to be used with R12. So, I would appreciate if someone could clear that up for me.

Thanx, Doug

The compressor will compress either refrigerant gas. You need to be sure it is "filled" with the proper oil for the refrigerant though. And yes, you will need to use the green o-rings. You can get the correct o-rings at Autozone. For piece of mind, I'd suggest flushing the system and charging with the correct type and amount of refrigerant oil.
