My SHO came with Borla mufflers. One of the exhaust pipes with tip corroded right off halfway and was lost. Are the exhaust pipes welded to the muffler outlet tubes? I'm wondering if i need to replace the whole muffler.

Most metals-- as long as you can cut out the corroded part you should be able to weld something on there. Is the metal ok about 1/2 from current end to muffler? If you have a shop that will do it. I'd just have something fabbed up and welded on what's left if possible.

Here is a pic of a Borla. It was bought as part of a catback system. The whole system is 304 stainless which should not be breaking ("million mile warranty" though I suspect that applies only to the original purchaser). From the appearance of your pic, it seems that a new tip was welded to that muffler outlet. There's discoloration all the way around and it looks like a rusty weld bead. Almost no muffler shop will bother welding muffler pipes with matching 304/308 weld materials so that is where the failure will occur. To be fair, regular mufflers aren't expected to last 40 years.

That is really the only stuff I would actually recommend for the price back in the day. I loved the Borla stuff on my Gen III

Went by a muffler shop. I was told that the mufflers had deteriorated and I was recommended replacing them as oppose to just trying to replace the piping which he didn't feel was going to be possible.

SHOsource has the Borla, looks like going Magnaflow is not cheaper. Wondering what people are using for exhaust tips.
