So I purchased my SHO approximatly 6 years ago from a couple who lived in a nice neighborhood and was letting their daughter drive it. The daughter driving one day was backing out of their garage and had some how managed to hit the passenger's side door against the garage, requiring a new skin. This was disclosed to me when I purchased it. Well not knowing any better at the time, the rear facia was a little loose on the passengers side too. Hmm, now I know why.

I was in the middle of putting a trailer hitch on my SHO to move around a small utility trailer, and busted one of the bolts that holds the impact shocks to the body (where your supposed to bolt the hitch in). Rather than trying to drill it out from the back, pulling the bumper and cover looked to be pretty easy, so I took the 6 bolts out and pulled. One side came right out, the other, not so much. After some more pulling and tugging, still no go. I decided to pull back the carpet on that side in the trunk and see if there was anything "special" I was missing. I should have taken a picture of it, but there were QTY 3 3" long drywall screws in from the facia. Hmm this isn't good.

You can see atleast 2 of the holes clearly, the third has some rust around it.

This is why they used sheetrock screws - the mount broke off

Now the best part is yet to come. The Facia is in good condition, but the bumper it self is got some issues -

Notice the paint sticks masking taped togather in the upper left. HOT.

Do all SHO bumpers look like the exhaust cut outs were cut by hand?

If I only knew the name of the shop that did the work. Oh well, Now that I got my trailer hitch mounted its time to find a new bumper.

the Gen2 SHO rear bumper assembly consists of a common bumper support & a SLO facia & then a SHO facia on top of that. The SLO facia does need a few modifications to allow the SHO facia to attach. All you need is a complete SLO bumper assembly to then add your good SHO facia on top.

Took you six years to even notice something wasn't orginal? Sounds like a good fix to me.

I made a similar repair on my car a while back to fix the loose cover. I can be pretty **** about some things, but some things on a 20 year old daily driver just aren't worth the hassle of making it perfect.

Very true. Now that I have though about it more - there really isn't much I can complain about other than the bumper being tore up under the facia.

There are plenty of good Taurus bodies down at the salvage yard in town, I'll see what I can pickup a SLO bumper assembly for and put my facia on it and be good to go. If I spend $40 or $50 to get the bumper assembly and bolt my facia on it, that will make my day!
