I have a 94 ATX and a little while ago it started making a noise which slowly go worse and worse. Until by the end, it was squeeling like a big. it sounded like a belt or pully noise so we checked and it sounded like the tensioner. so we ordered the part and when we took it off and the bearing didnt seem that bad but we figured we would replace just in case. just to be cautious we checked the idlers and the upper idler seemed to be the one making the noise becuase the bearing was thrashed. so we but the tensioner pully in the idler's spot and put the new pully on the tensioner becuase we figured its under the most pressure and didnt want to put the pully that was kind of bad on it. sowe put it back together. it was still making a noise but not the squealing sound from before. we figured that it was the water pump bearing starting to go but it was nothing to urgent and we would fix it down the road. So that night i drove the car becuase we had just put snow tires on it for the winter and i wanted to see how they were on the road. So when i was stopped at a light i wanted to see if i could hear the noise. so i shut off the radio and lowerd the front passnger side window to hear it clearly. it souned like it had gotten worse and the sound was like sand in a rotating drum. So my dad drove it work toady and when he came home the acc belt had partially shred in on spot. so we wanted to see if the pullys were all in line and at first glance they looked alright. but then we saw metal shavings on the axle boot so we looked again and what we saw is that the crank pully is out of line with rest of the pullys. on closer inspection its grinding up against the front of the engine. What do you guys think would cause this?
