Well, I just finished my project and got my 0-mile 3.2 in it's home and have logged around 100 miles on it so far. After messing with everything I only have one problem, the power steering. I removed the original 165k rack and pump. I replaced the rack with a Cardone remaned VAPS rack and a pump that had 132k on it. My old rack was shot, but the pump never made noise. This new rack is absolutely fabulous, however, my pump is constantly groaning. This groaning varies with RPM and if I am turning it or not. I have put it up on jack stands and cranked it back and forth and while doing this the pump is silent. However, once I put it on the ground and put strain on it it groans. The steering feels great, however I can feel a bit of resistence in the whell consistent with the groaning.

I don't think I have air in the system, am I correct in this?

I think the rack is fine, am I correct in this?

I unfortuneately think I should have reused my good old pump because I'm afriad this one might be a bum one, am I correct in this?

I would appreciate some thoughts on this.

Thanx, Doug

the only thing I can think of is the type of fluid in it... ATF or regular PS fluid?

Oh, it has all new hoses and a new cooler, so their is no contamination in the system.

It has Motorcraft type F fluid, which is what the manual states to put in.

Check the fluid, Doug. When I reinstalled mine, it would be full but it sucked in more fluid every time I drove it and the problem [groaning] would reappear. I had to keep topping it off, 2 or 3 times, and the problem hasn't came back and it stays full now! :thumb:

Edit: I told you to use that 95 pump! :nut:

I know, that is what I thought when I heard the groaning. Well, I have put 150 miles on it and the fluid level has not changed, so I think it is full. The thing that confused me is that when I had it in the air cranking back and forth the pump was silent. Which leads me to believe it is the pump because it only makes noise when it has a load on it......

I'll probably try to rebleed it again this week sometime.
