 OK, I'M NOT SURE WHAT IS HAPPENING WHIT MY SHO(94 MTX), I DON'T HAVE ANY LEAKS IN THE RADIATOR, MY WATER PUMP IS RUNNING FINE,
I DON'T KNOW.

WHEN I DO A SHORT TRIP (LET'S SAY 15 MILES) MY TEMP GOES TO THE M
OF NORMAL, THAT'S OK WITH ME, BUT WHEN A GET IN A TRAFFIC ZONE MY TEMP GOES TO THE ''R'' AND SOMETIMES TO THE ''O'' (COME ON:oogle:IS WINTER), A FRIEND TOLD ME THAT IS MY ECT SENSOR, BECAUSE MY FAN IS NOT WORKING WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT, OK SOUNDS LOGIC TO ME, BUT I DONT KNOW WHERE TO FIND IT  , CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME WITH THAT :hail: AND WHAT TYPE OF BRAND CAN BE RECOMMENDED, AND WHERE CAN I FIND A SERVICE MANUAL FOR MY SHO...

THANKS, VINCE

Sounds perfectly normal to me so far. The fan will usually kick in around the "o" and sometimes even as far as the "n". I'd verify that the fan doesn't kick on before you go spend the time.

Here's a picture of where the ECT is located:

It is less than $20 from Checker/Advance and takes a 1" socket to replace it. If yours is bad, you'll notice reduced fuel economy and unusual fan behavior. Replacing it with every 60k is a great idea.

Be happy the gauge is working...Check the coolant level and the radiator cap {cold} if you NEED to do something. When did the coolant get changed last? Throwing parts at it, is just that...and ease up with the CAPS.

It could be your ECT, but you could do some additional diagnostics before replacing.

I've done mine twice; it couldn't be easier.

There are two versions of the ECT. My first replacement was from NAPA and was plastic. It lasted about a year before going bad. I decided a plastic replacement for a factory brass sensor was a bad idea. I checked out the Wells ECT from AutoZone (or other fine retailers) and it was brass, and exact duplicate of the OEM sensor I had removed.

Good luck.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Every MTX I've had has operated much the same...hovers around the M when driving and in stop/go driving the fan will kick on around the O and cool it back down. The factory gauge will sweep quite a ways without there being much change in actual coolant temp. I had a 93 MTX with a separate water temp gauge in the A-pillar, and around the M I was indicating about 200 degrees and at the O (when the fan would kick on) I was indicating about 215, which is a normal operating temp.

Now I did have a failing ECT sensor on my 89, and there was no mistaking it...the fan quit working and the car would overheat unless I kept it moving. I'd venture to say that your ECT is fine, however each SHO is a little different and if it's running a little warmer than it used to your ECT could be a little off and telling the fan to kick on later.
